It is for an MB first aid kit. I picked up the kit and a leather MB CD holder on ebay last year for 20 bucks. Look under MB first aid kits on ebay.

This has been brought up before.
In Europe that pocket is filled with a first aid kit.
When my 2004 was delivered that was where the manual and warranty (useless lies) were stored.
