Please help me decide on the Crossfire..
I agree with pretty much everything that has been said so far. I'll add that, even after having been on sale for 5 years, the Crossfire design still looks fresh and turns heads. I looked at S2000's, Boxster S's and 350Z's and, while they were fun to drive, I thought they all looked very dated. The Crossfire is the car that will be gracing the Concours stage in 30 years, not any of the competition!
The srt is easily the biggest bargain I have ever seen I agree. And has cheap as they are, at 20 im really not financially ready to spend more than 14g's on a car(im thinkin i can sell the S for around 12 idk). So im pretty sure I can't afford the SRT. I dont think i mind too much not affording the SRT for a few reasons; I love driving manual cars, I prefer the leather, better gas mileage, and I really got to watch my speeding i cant afford another ticket! Obviously I like the more aggressive look of the SRT but its a trade im willing to take with just the xfire limited coupe.
When I say the S2000 is a better sports car i say it because of its strong racing heritage, its reputation on the track, its x-frame chassis, 120hp/liter engine(still a production NA record), perfect 50/50 weight distribution, limited slip differential, best gearbox in the world, 9k redline, its overall excitement to drive, its truly the closest thing to an F1 car in production IMO.
But like I already said...my s2k itself is having its share of problems....AC(not working), a shot wheel bearing(a noise that will kill your ears), a mystery chirping sound coming from a relatively new engine. All that noise combined with the rattles and tranny whines expected from the s2k, I just cant take it anymore. My answer to that was always to just drive spiritedly, but that just cant be an option anymore cause of the tickets.
So considering the looks of the crossfire, its price, its quietness/comfort, its newness, and rareness, it seems like I am choosing the right car for me.
What can you guys say about the reliability of this xfire? I mean I have 130k on the S, but to be honest I expected a lil more reliability than what I have already endured. What kind of mileage should I be looking for? And how are the expenses in terms of maintaining the car/parts? This would be my first German car so…..

Expenses are higher than maintaining a Geo Metro, probably more on par with an S2000.
Very few things go wrong, most things people on here know how to fix.
Check for rust under the lower door seal and on the hood latch.
By the way, if you have 130,000 miles on your s2000, you must be driving the car a smackload. Nobody here has that many miles on the XF so nobody here knows how it will hold up.
Also pray you don't get buy a lemon. There are some out there.
Fuel efficiency? The XF gets between 22 and 30. I average 25mpg mixed city/highway. Have you thought about buying a honda fit or something? Seriously. Nobody drives 130k around corners, almost all of that has to be highway (unless you're delivering pizzas in an S2000.) Unless you're Bill Gates, at 20 years old it might be time for you to buy a cheaper car to maintain.
Also, plan on paying $1000+ for a set of four tires. Do that every 25,000 miles and at 130k your XF ate up $5k just on rubber.
The XF is a nice car, but it isn't cheap to run by any means. Also, you'll always be paranoid about getting the car dirty. Know what you're getting into!
as I said, Consumer Reports listed the Crossfire as one of its recommended used cars for reliability in their last car issue.Take that as you will, since it is CR.
See my previous post about my personal take on the Crossfire's reliability.
As Sonoronos mentions, the car isn't cheap to maintain: tires, yup, they're not inexpensive, expect to pay roughly around $250 each for the exclusive brands (Pirelli, Michelin) for just the rear tires alone. Oil changes aren't cheap unless you can do them yourself. The car requires synthetic 0W-40. Mods are available but expensive compared to what you may be used to paying.

Hi guys,
Its been a while since i started this thread. But I finally sold the s2000. I'm in the market for the xfire or a Z. It seems like im leaning towards the xfire. I have found a few for sale. I was wondering if anyone knew of a mechanic shop/dealership that is knowledgeable with these cars. I want someone to look at the vehicle before I pull the trigger. I live in orange county california.
THANKS!

From what I've read, the Limited rate @ .89g is normal for all season tires but the SRT is low, most tests produce .91g's. The tires that are on the car make alot of difference.

damn, this must be old, i havent had the xfire in a while and this just popped up in my email...i have a z now..trust me dont waste ur time with a xfire, especially a n/a xfire...and the srt's are all auto...just go for the z u wont regret it..all around better car in my opinion..better put together and just better handling and performance and looks..go drive both..my xfire had so many squeaks and what not and felt cheaply put together compared to my z...to everyone their own but if i could do it over again i would have never wasted my time with my xfire that was lame...and trac. control cannot even be fully turned off...how much fun is that

is that something new, how do u have ur trac. control turned completely off?..when i had the xfire u could only pull the fuses but still it wasn't completely off..and speedo wouldn't work and what not..just cause the button is off it isn't completely off, it automatically kicks on even with it turned off unless like i said u have something new that wasnt out when i had the car

Can't remember who posted a photo of it here on the forum (over a year ago) but it worked out great for me. Now my car doesn't go into "limp" mode everytime I drive over some loose gravel. I can put it into a powered "oversteer" (i.e. donut) in 1st. gear and the yaw sensor hasn't been heard from.
Anti locks are disabled, but I don't drive in winter, and very seldom (if ever) in the rain. Installing a simple "in-line" on/off switch (in the interior) would take the place of the "factory" switch not completely turning it off.
