Default New motor costs more than new Car

As I stated before, I have a clicking sound between 1,300 and 2,000 rpm. The shop tore the engine apart and found what they "think" is the problem. One of the wrist pins on a piston makes a sound when moved. I listened today and you can hear it. Anyway, they are going to talk to Chrysler today to see what to do. Get this: a new complete motor is $26,000 dollars. A new short block with nothing is $4,000. Man, things are expensive these days. Question is, does the owner say what happens or the shop. I just don't want them to fix "the problem" and then put it all back together and find out it wasn't that. Of course, we would all like a new motor, but at these prices, I can see why Chrylser is going broke.

Even a set of brand new pistons, rings, rods, bearings etc would run you less than $3k. I'm not talking DC parts either. I'm talking about full-on 4340 forged racing rods and JE forged pistons?!

Why do you need a new short block? Did they say the cylinder bores were damaged or out of spec?

A wrist pin that makes noise is NOT a reason to replace the whole darn engine!

No no, dont get me wrong. I know the parts to fix are far less than the new motor. I was just lamenting on the insane prices of the motors, etc. for this car. The pin, if thats the problem, is a $10 part. I just hope that that's the problem, I dont want the car to be down very long.

You can get a complete 3.7L motor from Mercedes for about $12,000. Chrysler has to buy through Mercedes and thus jacks the price way up. Never buy non-crossfire specific parts through Chrysler.

Kinda like the transmission we sell here at Quadratec. The NSG370 is the same as what's in the 2005- present Jeep Wranglers. We have 4 in stock and they're new. After they're gone they're all remans. We sell them for 1999.99$ Looking on ChryslerPartsDirect.com they're a tad higher...

They tore the entire engine down and have to say, there's lots of parts all over. They found one or two rist ? pins making some noise when you wiggle the piston. Cyl. walls look good. They ordered new pistons, rods, pins, etc from Chrylser today, hopefully be in by friday. Oh well, I hope this fixes the noise. You'all have fun with your cars, because I'm sure not.

The wrist pins knock??? Like an Out-of-round issue or just a sizing. Usually wrist pins are press fit and it's good that there's no cylinder wall damage with pistons rocking back and forth...
