Very Misleading
Ok I went and bought that replacement siren to get the key chirp. This thing does not chirp, it beeps like a microwave. A chirp is that sound that birds, bmw's and mercedes make. So i just wasted 70 bucks for a siren that sounds like crap, and a 35 dollar gear pully that has no other uses.
Reading back on the original thread i see that about half of the people call it a chirp, and half call it a beep. I will have to read into the details next time.

Well its better than nothing in my opinion. I just expected the sound my dads z3 makes. After locking the door i expected to hear "Turn the popcorn over".
Also the nut on the siren housing never came off, i tried with all my might to break the nut loose and the whole siren housing just turned, giving me the impression that the nut on the other side is either loose now, or i stripped the opening where the bolt goes through. Anyways, i gave it a quarter turn in the opposite direction that i started with and its snug atleast. Im not too concerned, unless water pours down there?

If half call it a beep and half call it a chirp wouldn't that be considered a burp?
By the way my Mercedes doesn't make a sound either, the lights flash and that's it.

Maybe we are not talking about the same thing here... but I bought the buzzer at Radio Shack for $3 and I would say it is a chirp. Works great when you lock or unlock your car with the remote.

And what gear pulley did you buy for $35 that was good for only 1 thing?
Just curious. James

I installed the radio shack buzzer early this year. I had to take my car in for warranty work about a month ago for some issues including a bad siren. I have heard both side by side and they sound the same. The loudness is the some and the radio shack buzzer is just a little lower tone. Trust me for the cost difference buy the radio shack buzzer for $3.00.

And $3 for a chirping device? Can you post a sound clip?

I think the new alarm is louder, but the tone is the same.

I installed the Radio Shack buzzer, and I didn't really like it. So I went the route of replacing the alarm siren module. I like the beep it makes. It's sublte, not an annoying "look at me" "wake the neighbors" beep of the horn. But to each his own.
I would suggest removing the new alarm module and putting your old one back. Then sell the new one in the For Sale section here on the forum. I'm sure someone would like to have one. I bet you could even throw in the gear puller.
You really didn't need the gear puller though. With patience and lots of wiggling, the wiper arms do come off.
Also, the nut you're talking about that holds the siren bracket in place doesn't turn. It is welded to the bracket. You have to turn the bolt from the other side of the cowl, which I have to say is a big pain in the rear. God help you if you drop that bolt when you get it out, as it will go right down on top of the transmission.
Anyway, you can tighten you bracket up, by holding the bracket stationary and then ratcheting on the bolt on the front of the cowl. It shouldn't matter though, since the whole area is covered by a big peice of plastic.

Arcrist, I'm truly sorry your unhappy with your recent purchase. I'm sure many members have made purchases of after market items that have not lived up to our expectations. On the lighter side, I would like my car to have a flatulence tone when I use the remote to lock the doors. This would not only signal that the doors locked, it would be very entertaining when somebody stops to take a peak inside and I'm twenty feet away holding the remote.
It would be extremely helpful and solve this whole misconception if someone would be so kind as to make a video or sound clip of the beep they get from the different alarm.

Thanks Valk!
That sound is COMPLETELY different from what I was expecting radio shack buzzer to be. Is the factory alarm "chirp/beep" much different. Any clips of it?
