Default Crossfire Car Alarm - What to know.

I am interested to see who out there has installed an after market car alarm, but more particularly a motion sensor alarm, that detects movement outside the car. Also, what can people tell me about the standard alarm, I know the basics but any info. would be helpful.

This year I am renting a college house with two of my buddies which is in a decent part of town. By decent for where I go to school I mean, semi-industrial with a mix of middle-class and run-down housing. I am worried for the safety of my car since I will be forced to park on the street out front, as there is no driveway. Therefore I have been looking into motion sensor alarms that will trigger when someone gets too close to my Crossfire.

So far I have looked at Crime Guard brand models. You have to purchase a basic package with the alarm and then purchase an additional package with the mod for the exterior motion sensors.

Has anyone had experience with this?! Any other people make this mod? Please help, thanks in advance.

The basic alarm will go off if the car tilts (for stealing tires or to tow it away). How sensitve it is, I do not know. I looked at a used coupe which had a broken rear latch - when I raised the hatch after locking the car the alarm went off loud and clear.

I wouldn't bother with anything that senses noise outside the vehicle. Too many false alarms and eventually people stop paying attention.

If you're concerned, I would suggest...

1 - renting a garage
2 - buy locking lugnuts to protect those nice rims
3 - invest in a gas shutoff valve - if someone tries to drive away they don't get too far before it runs out of fuel

But maybe some on the forum have installed more sophisticated alarm systems, other than the wise guys who will suggest the car battery and a transformer hooked up to the skin of the car, to jolt anything that touches it. That works real well on meter maids and old ladies.

I wouldn't be against the idea of a Bond type guard that electrifies the sheet metal... alas if it were only legal. This alarm senses motion on the exterior not noise, but I agree false alarms would not be good!

Since I park at a high school and would have an absolute episode if someone were even leaning up against my car with jeans on, I checked out the possibility a while back. I contacted "Fritzauf" and he has a Compustar system. (http://www.compustar.com/)

I also know that Viper makes a good system. I think about $450 is what a top of the line Viper alarm would cost.

Now, I what I would be interested in was a proximity sensor that was wired into the factory alarm. I wouldn't think that this would be too difficult to do. That's what I would be sold on. Good luck. Maybe you should try to contact "Fritzauf."

Something like this should work as an "accessory":

I have a buddy who works at my office who just loves car electronics. At least in my case I was hoping he would help me out. Otherwise aren't there shops that do that kindof installation? For anyone who is following this, that separate microwave dual zone sensor --- does it need to be attached to another alarm package you buy separately?

I was just cruisin' the 'net. Google "commander car alarms" and it on the left panel of their website there is an installer finder.

I would look at Viper alarms too, I just don't know if they have motion detector add-ons. Check 'em out.

Here ya' go!

Somebody tried to break into my daughters Accord 2 weeks ago, and siphoned some gas last month. I'm getting her a Viper system.

BestBuy sells/installs them. And the add-ons to.

Personally I like my Trunk Monkey. Easy to install and costs only bananas. ....

I suggest overnite delivery. Otherwise the monkey is kinda testy and hungry when you try to install it.

Just as an FYI.. the stock alarm doesn't have motion / shock sensors.. I know from first hand experience, as someone broke my windshield / driver side window and the alarm DID NOT go off..
