Crossfire Concept Introduction Press Kit
I think they should of made the production car identical to the concept, interior and all. Just use the AMG engine however. The split window and other cues to me are just amazing. Glad too see our cars are 'close'. Most production cars are never within 90% of the concept.
I've been getting a few new requests for copies of the CD.
The offer was intended to be a one-time thing, but I'll fulfill requests made 'till now.
Besides, some people know how to ask for things politely.
Originals are still available on EBay.
Sorry to cut this off, but it is getting expensive.
16 original requests... 5 thank you's... 1 lost in space.

The original concept was never intended to use an MB chassis...At the time the Daimler guys had no interest in sharing engines and platforms. But Dieter Zetche and Wolfgang Bernhard liked it so much, and it was such a good fit that they were able to convince Daimler to greenlight it for production using the SLK. You can thank them for making it all possible!
The original car had about the same overall length, but wider. The wheelbase was 7 or 8 inches longer (hence the shorter overhangs), and it had 19 and 21 inch wheels. The show car had a full carbon body (you should have seen it before they painted it!), the 2.7L v6 and Viper suspension. It took 8 pieces of glass before they were able to do that split rear window! The main reasons for the change on the front of the production car were 1) the carryover SLK black metal (under the skin) required a certain general size and placement of the lamps 2) to meet bumper regs and 3) The CTS had just come out and they were worried about stepping on the toes of Cadillac.
Whether you prefer the concept car or not, those changes and the SLK platform made it possible not only to produce the Crossfire, but to make it affordable and well built.

Thanks for the insight, I am quite pleased with the basic changes they had to make to get it in production they stayed pretty true to the concepts design, a lot of times that doesn't happen. I still love the split windshield and backglass, I do wish they had kept them.
these guys with this "god" I'm the "Creator" complex, you'd think they designed the car or something!
just kidding of course.
good to see you posting.
good to see you posting.
I would have loved to see what the production run looks like with bigger wheel wells for 19" and 21" rims on them. I know that running 21" rims isn't feesible on the current, but that would be a sight to see.
Also, I know the NA 2.7 was no good for an engine, but I would have loved to see them bump the power to 275hp/270tq in our 3.2 NA, that would be nice. I guess that would mean the SRT6 may have come 350-375hp. With all the modification and research being put in by everyone...The SRT6 would be even more of a beast now.
Damn.

Going to the home page www.netcarshow.com/chrysler will get you the photos of the production model, even more photos here spread over two pages for some models of the Xfire, roadsters, coupes in n/a and SRT editions, UK versions of coupe only (is RHD the only diff.?)
www.netcarshow.com will show a list of practically all the newer cars you could ask for and some older ones as well.
Nice photos for computer screen.

Thanks for the insight, Eric!
AND, thanks for posting!
I graduated from the same college (Cleveland Institute of Art) as Eric Stoddard... I met him at a design symposium in Cleveland that was being hosted by CIA and the big three.. He's a pretty cool guy from what I remember.. Last I heard he now heads up design for Hyundia/Kia.
