Limited MPG
In calculating mileage, I use the "stop at the click" approach. HOWEVER, I NEVER use figures gotten from a single tank of gas. I use a minimum of 5 tanks before i calculate the average mpg. This allows for the differences in the shut-off point on various pumps. Just completed a 3000+ mile trip. If I had used the single tank approach, I would have had a low mpg of 26.3 and a high of 33.1 !!!!!! Actual average for the entire trip, carefully logged at each fill-up, was 29.1.
While there was some city driving, this was mostly Interstate at speeds from 70 to 80/82 mph (3,000 rpms in predominately 6th gear - a manual, obviously).

hm, my car only has 16k miles on it. At what millage would you say our cars are broken in? Do all of those who are getting better millage have higher millage on their cars?
I'll have to do the k&n after researching the millage gains. I wonder if any other modifications could yield considerable gains?? In my previous car, removing the VTCS made for considerable millage gains.

I purchased my 06 in August 08 with just 1900 miles on it. It now has 8,000 miles on it - - you can see that I do a lot of highway driving. As to modifications, to date it consists of a MB enginecover/airbox and a Magnaflow exhaust. Air filters are still stock.
