6 Spd M/t Service Bulletin Question
I've got my xfire being worked on with the rust in the door seals and after i tested the diagnoses it fit it to the t. it only grinds when i engage the clutch while the shifter isn't in gear while the motor is running. so after the motor is running & after it's forced into 1st or reverse(grinds and very diffecult to shift into) but once it's in gear from there on it shift like butter. so the dealership is saying it's the clutch the reason it's shifting like that which i'm starting to think the dealership is yanking me aroung. if it was the clutch wouldn't it grind like that in every gear? i figured it would and i've got machince friends and they aren't to sure.

well it did jump out of 1st a few times but other then that it's really difficult shifting into first/reverse once the motor is running & the transmission isn't in gear then try to shift into first or reverse but any other gear shifts fine. the dealership is saying it's the transmission which i don't believe i know a lot about cars but no pro but i know a lot but that doesn't sound right
but once i get it into gear it shifts fine into and out of first and reverse it's just acting up & shafting very difficult into first and reverse once i put the transmission out of gear while the motor is running and engage the clutch. then disengage the clutch and shift into first or reverse it'll be very difficult to shift into 1st and reverse. but once it's into first/reverse it'll shift fine from there as long as i don't put the clutch engaged with the transmission out of gear.
You just perfectly described what synchronizer rings do when they start to go bad.
Basically, all they do is make it easier to shift into a gear, when the gears are aligned they shift good, up until the point that the clutch is disengaged and the gears once again go out of alignment.

well i talked to the service clerk again and he said he misunderstood the mechanic said on whats wrong with the transmission. he said its what i stated that what i said that it's very likely that's the linkage issue that the service bulletin stated in the pdf above^. so they are going to look into it and also they are working on the door seal rust issue bc i've got 1 year left of the corrosion protection and 3 years left of drive train warranty.
