Default $668.00 Power Steering Pump?

Maybe Im wrong about the pump but Wow $668.00 for a pump thats nuts!!!! plus installation... anybody have any suggestions? It was not low on fluid!!! at 65,000 miles...I thought it might be a pulley bearing till I opened the hood its coming from the pump and its loud! Sounds like marbles in a coffee can.. and slippage inside and a clunk ever so often.......

That is list price at a Chrysler dealership, the Mopar part number is 05097049AA and list price is $668.00.
The MB part number is A002-466-12-01 and the local MB dealer sells it for $478.00.
I hope this helps.

Thanks Paul that was my next step to check with MB. . . . Is that a c320 or slk 320 part? or do you think it could be different on a xfire?
Im Just not sure yet that the pump is bad either. at these prices Im a little nervous about buying the part till im sure guess I will have to take it in to the stealership. to be sure....It doesnt seem to be a problem steering the car....

Try removing the belt and turn it by hand to see if it is rough or binds up ! Sure it's not the idler pulley ???

Sorry dude, I just caught the other thread on this......never mind !!!

Good luck !

Yeah its a lotta money for a pump just wanta be sure b4 I jump in with both feet.
I thought it was a tensioner pulley or idler bearing but I spun those and they are smooth darn it.....
Had to ride the bike today.
I didnt want to shred the belt and cause more problems.
And now its time to head to the house. thanks for your imput, you guys....

Chrysler parts direct also has a better price than the MSRP. I attached a screen shot of their site.

I just looked at RockAuto.com.

$233 and $50 back for the core?

Is this it?

Our car is the SLK320 (R170) but I believe the C320 has the same pump. The MB part number I posted is the correct part. As far a a rebuilt part I am sure there are several rebuilders and the R170 platform started using the M112 engine about 2000 I believe, for a aftermarket pump just look for a SLK320 (R170) with a M112 engine.

Amazing, the SRT6 pump is cheaper than the N/A pump. I wonder what the difference is between the two.

One thing to consider: Did the pump allow any metal to contaminate the fluid? If so you will need to flush the system. I have installed inline filters in the return line to catch any particles that may be floating in the fluid. That is mostly on Rack and Pinion where you get a lot of aluminum in the fluid. But you still need to check and/or flush.

Not flushing the bad fluid out could cause pump failure again or even premature wear on the box.
