German Elasticity?
German Elasticity?
I'm surprised there aren't allot more "Germans" than there are, when you consider the "quality" of their "rubber" products.
1st. my gas caps umbilical cord breaks after only 21k miles.
Then my Conti's wear out sooner than they should have.
And now my wiper blade splits right down the middle.
My car is always garaged, hardly ever in the sun. They don't even have more than 10 hours use!
What I need to know is which blade goes where?
One is 21.5" long, and the other one is 19.5" long.
I never see "1/2" sizes on wiper blades at the automotive stores, and the drivers side wiper blade is only about 1/4" away from touching the sllver surround on the windshield.
I don't want to order the overpriced/crappy blades from the dealer that are just like the ones on my car now, but I don't know what size to get.

Re: German Elasticity?
Thanks Pat, that explains why my drivers side blade comes within 1/4" of the top of the windshield. It's 21.5" long.
Now, I hate to have to ask, but can somebody please measure the windshield wiper arm from where it's hinged to the end of where the center of the wiper blade is attached?
One side is just over 14" on my car, and the other side is a 11.5".
Thanks in advance!

Re: German Elasticity?
Well, rubber is rubber and it breaks down (dries out) over time even if it's stored out of the elements. Don't blame the Germans.
A couple weeks ago, I got new blades from the dealer. I've generally found that OEM blades from the dealer have lasted longer and fit better than off brands. The guy in the Chrysler parts dept. showed me the option of standard Mopar blades (without the wind deflector) which he admitted were cheap, and the MB/Mopar blades (both with wind deflectors). The Mopar blades were about $21 a pair and MB/Mopar blades were $46 a pair. I opted for the MB/Mopar blades.
The parts number are:
1-05189812AA
and
1-05099055AB
Hope that helps!

Inferno, I was mostly joking about German rubber being inferior, what I should have said is no rubber holds up like it use to.
My 69 AMX still has the original wiper blades, and the last time I got caught in a rain storm with it they worked fine.
But on all the Japanese cars I've owned, I didn't notice the rubber failing unusually fast. So the jury is still out when it comes to German rubber, at least for me.
Oh, and thanks for the part #'s.
But now I'm going to start worrying about my "Guibos" wearing out.
