Chrysler extended warranty after GM takeover ?
In all likelihood Chrysler as we know it is done, and GM is going to lay waste to Chrysler once these secret Chrysler/GM/Govt meetings conclude.
I'm trying to decide if I should purchase an extended Chrysler warranty for my SRT6, but with this current development, I'm a bit hesitant to lay out $1200 without knowing if the warranty would be valid after GM sieges Chrysler.
Chrysler mechanics are already fairly inept with the SRT6, I could only image the perils of the SRT6 service from a GM mechanic.
Anyone know how this would work if GM acquires Chrysler ?

Wish I could answer your question. I've been scared since the day I heard about this. I will share with you why I would never buy another GM product. Brand new 79 Corvette purchased in March of 79 after ordering on Oct 30 1978. Was in the shop 1 week of every month until October of 79. They finally figured out it was the front float in my carb that was hanging up. (Symptom - it would stall out in intersections when cold) That car went bye bye in favor of a 280ZX. In 1985 the last straw....a brand new 85 Monte Carlo. There was an obvious short in the dash somewhere. They couldn't find it. You could sit in the car and smell plastic burning. The owner of the dealership sat in my car with me and said, " I can smell it but if I can't see it I can not fix it." Both the car and dealership went bye bye shortly there after. My two PT Cruisers and Crossfire are the first "American" cars I've owned since, not that the Crossfire is an American car. All I can say is I hope they let Mercedes pick up our service if they do go to GM.

With two companies this large, I wouldn't expect to see serious changes for several years. Full integration would not occur for probably 4 to 6 minimum.
I doubt that GM purchased Chrysler to shut them down. I suspect they know some of the lines Chrysler/Dodge make are kicking their tail in sales.

Contracts signed by one company generally do not become void when the company is purchased by another (you can't buy the assets without also taking on the liabilities), so your warranty would be honored by the new company. If GM and Chrysler do merge, they will likely revamp the ways in which they compete with each other, but I don't think that you'll see the Chrysler brand go by the wayside. The mini van and the 300 are too popular for that.

Exactly what I was gonig to say... All warranties purchased before the merger must be honored, if not then a class-action could easily come about.

It's one thing for the warranty to still be honored (which they will), but it's another thing if you'll still want to take your Crossfire there for service when they don't have MB trained techs. I suspect many of those guys will leave to go work for independent shops.
