Default Please help ! - car shuts down at slow speeds and sometimes wont start

On four occasions during the past month, my 2005 Crossfire Coupe has refused to start. All of the electricals work, but the engine will not turn over. After 20-30 minutes, the engine starts normally. On two of the four occasions, I have stopped in a parking lot, run into a store and when I came out the engine would not start. On two occasions, the engine has stopped running at low speed and then the engine will not restart. Again, after 20-30 minutes the engine restarts.

Probably fuel related. Check the fuel pump and filter first.......

ok I got off the phone with the man and he is telling me there are three modules in that box, and that he is replacing the relay, not the power or other one.. is this correct?

Yes, the relay control module. Or the crank shaft position sensor. Or the.......... I hope they get it fixed the first try for you.

I have had two Crankshaft position sensors fail, both times they went period with no warning. Not trusting the dealer to fix this at a reasonable cost, I pulled out the workshop manual and using the listed symptoms and causes I found out that the CPS was kaput. This did require a sensitive multimeter but I did it. The dealer was quite surprised and probably disappointed, that I could tell him the problem, they prefer the what if method, whereby they change things until it works and then stick you with buying parts you never needed in the first place ...... and they wonder why we mistrust them.

My guess would be ignition switch or a poor contact at the battery terminal. The high amperage drawn by the starter needs a good contact. Look for something simple (and cheap) at first and work your way up the scale. Intermittent faults are the hardest to solve most often.
I am probably wrong but thats where I would start.

Most parts on this car can be purchased from Mercedes, at a significantly lower price than if you purchase them through Chrysler. I replaced the relay control module on my car last spring, purchased from MB for 40 bucks less than what Chrysler wanted to charge.
Incidentally when I pulled the ole module out, it was stamped with the MB Star and part number. Go figure

Why would you be surprised that the part was originally made for MB? With a considerable amount of this car being sourced from the MB parts bin you should expect it. If you had ordered the part from Chrysler, an order from the parts department would have gone out to the MB dealer and you would have ended up with the same part you now have. Dealers keep only the minimal amount of frequently used spares on the shelf as it costs money just to have it sit there in the hope that someone will buy it, cash flow is what it is called. Now that the Xfire is a product of a broken marriage, I hope someone has some spares in the future and it is not going to be abandoned by both parents. No divorce settlement for us I am sure.

Geez, YOU THINK Most all of us are well aware of the relationship between the US and German Auto giants. I was being sarcastic !
However you would absolutely be amazed how many folk do not know that you can pretty much buy any replacement part for this car from their local Mercedes dealer !!! People have waited weeks for parts to come in from Chrysler when they could have picked up the same part off the shelf from MB. Peace Out !

Sorry, the sarcasm was lost on me. Could you explain what you mean by 'that you can pretty much buy any replacement part for this car from their local Mercedes dealer' ? Chrysler boasted of about 40% Mercedes parts, I have always wondered if that was by weight, volume or quantity. I am sure that most of that so called 40% can be purchased at the local Mercedes dealer, plus some commonly used items but other parts I have to doubt very much. If Chrysler goes under we may be left out in the cold as soon as the existing Chysler parts are gone. Let us hope that the after market guys see that some money is to be made in this regard. I can buy parts for my old '66 Mustang, enough in fact to practically make a new one.
