Default AC is OUT! Leak in Engine!

Well my worst nighmare happened--car is already having problems. The AC is out!!!! Started blowing hot air. The dealer hooked it up to the machine and it only had .68 of AC coolant left--should have 2.15 (or something like that.) The bad news is there is a LEAK  Taking it back in Monday when the Crossfire tech is there is try and find the leak.

I really pissed right now--QUALITY is an issue on this car. Come on, I have it two weeks and it already has a serious leak! This is my worst nightmare--I was not going to buy a Chrysler for this reason and here I am having to deal with issues into week 3.

crossfiretech--any suggestions or thoughts????

Sorry to hear this tex. I hope it can be fixed quickly.

I'm really having surious doubts if to still keep my order. With all these problems and the high UK price plus the thought of having a 90's interior is getting me down.

I hope by November when the UK cars arrive they will be built better and be given good reviews by the media. If this does not happen then I will drop it.

MARK

You have to keep in mind that this IS a first year production car, even if it is based on an existing platform/engine. That problem doesn't sound SO bad, yes it sucks, but look at the bright side... some people who have bough G35s and 350zs have had to replace the transmission up to three times in the first 3 months of having the cars... obviously no problem is acceptable, but it is a price you pay for having a first year production car.

I am told that there were a few cars with cut o-rings in the AC lines. A simple fix and recharge should get you back on the road. The dealers should have a "rapid transmittal" that tells them exactly where to look for your leak.

carguy:

Thanks for the note--I will advise them of that on Monday. That CERTAINLY makes me feel a little better that it's potentially already ID'd by DC.

So finding and a replaceing an o-'ring should not be a big deal? The tech had mentioned maybe it was on O'ring, and that they could put dye in to locate it--does that sound right???

Okay, I have calmed down since my original post since yesterday. carguy PM'd me info on a RRT (Rapid Response Transmittal) #03-013 about pinch o'ring. I'm going to let the dealer know and hopefully they will be able to fix w/o issue. I hope this is the problem.

This is why the forum is great, because people can share their concerns and someone (in this case carguy--THANKS!) has the info that could solve the issue. 8)

Chrysler has not been known for Quality, but I have been a Chrysler Fan. Love the Designs. Have a 98 T&C Van, 01 PT Crusier Lmtd, and now the X-fire. I haven't had any problems with any ex routine maint. And, Oh Yea - several recalls for "O" rings on the fuel system, tires, Fuel Filler pipe. Hope the X-fire doesn't have these problems, but I like the car so much I'll put up with any that come along. Especially if they a covered by the warranty and the car is not in the shop too long. My son has a 2002 Passat, V6 Turbo. Real lemon, been in the shop 20 times. Turbo replaced twice, transmission once. I told him to turn it in under the Lemon Law but he likes the care and let the problem go too long. In Florida if a car is in the shop 30 days or more you can ask for your money back or a new car. My sons Passat qualified, but he decided to keep it. It's been OK over the past year or so.

texex, we're all going have problems like yours. Being a first year car, I know, I've had 3 cars that were first year models, they all have bugs. Right now I'm crossing (get it?) my fingers that they will be few and far between. Hang in there, this forum should keep us all i9nformed on what to watch for. That's why it's important to keep it going.

sambo:

I hear ya, and thanks for the reality check. I too had a first yr car before (Lexus IS300) in 01 when they first came out. I was lucky because I did not one thing go wrong (besides them replacing the tires due to a recall--which was great because it was time for news ones  ).

It's really more of just the inconvienence because the dealer is 45 minutes away (one way in traffic) and a pain with my travel/work schedule to have to go in everytime something happens (I PRAY this will be the only thing, at least for this year )

The feeling I get driving it around though, will certainly help me over come my fear of quality issues.

I'll let everyone know what the dealer says Monday--going in at 7AM (hope they can get it out same day!)

Default BACK FROM DEALER

Okay, took my baby in this morning for the AC leak. It was an o ring that was leaking (Part # 4798675). They said it was during assembly that caused the o ring to go bad. They replaced the o ring and recharged the AC system. Was blowing cold on the way home, so hopefully they did all that they needed to do.

Was fun at dealer, because had the standard oogleing at the car. I was in flip flops and a cap/shorts and walked up to the car as 3 people were looking at it. I opened the door and one of the lookers said "I wouldn't do that"--I looked at him and said "as long as I'm making the payments I think it will be ok."

Texex91--Thank goodness you don't live in a state where it really gets hot!! Just kidding.

I second what has been said by others, a first year build is a crap shoot until DC gets enough data to know that they have a serious issue with a part or assembly point. I am sure that 99.44% of the car is perfect, so just ride this out and maybe everything else will be ok. I still carry spare input and output tranny sensors in the glovebox of my M because they had so many fail in the first year build. When they fail the car goes into limp mode [2nd gear ]. I'm five years in the car now and still waiting for it to happen the first time. You can just never tell what they were given to put in the car and when it will fail. At least your part failed at a time when DC must be very interested in making a correction.
