Default So my car is at the dealer...

OK so i had posted early in regards to the Spoiler staying up and the ESP BAS light and the ABS light being on. So i tried the few ideas that was given to me on here and no dice. So to the dealer it went. The problem turned out to be a few knawed wires from a field mouse.(my car stays in the garage side of our barn... at least it did but not no more). But when i had dropped the car off i told them to not fix anything that was not covered under warranty, I took it in for the main problem along with rear suspension squeek, the radio typical problems, the rear hatch rattle, and the steering dampener. Well after the found the knawed wires they contacted me and asked me what to do. i told them to give me a bit to think about it and i would call them back. Well i ecided to go out and look at the wires to talk to the tech and ask him how he planned to fix it. I figured if he was just going to soder in new wires then i could do that myself and not pay them to do it. well i got there and the tech went ahead and fixed it without permission too. he told me he already had to much time in it to not fix it.

Now they are going to fix the hatch for free and replacing the dampener under warranty. they also found a small tranny leak at the electrical connection that they will fix. They are going to check into the squeek and see what is causing it and determine if it will be covered....

Now the question....
The tech had 4 hours into the wiring repair just looking for it and accessing it for repair. Now he has 2 more hours in it in unauthorized repairs. and the service manager is aware of it being unauthorized.
How should i address this problem? I dont like being rude but i can soder wires just fine. I feel that i should only pay for the 4 hours i agreed to over the phone and should not pay for the unauthorized repair.
How should I handle this?

I believe that all the things they are fixing are TSB's, so they are just doing their job. Not any special favors. I would nicely tell them that you have no issue paying for the authorized work but not the unauthorized labor. That is why they were supposed to call you BEFORE proceeding. Just do it politely.

The few knawed wires from a field mouse may not be covered,
But everything else should be.
If polite does not work first, then start gitting mad.
Saying youll call chrysler about there work, ask to see a manager or the owner.
GOOD LUCK

Sounds like you have already figured out that the squeek is a mouse. Kill the mouse, problem solved!!

lol thats funny. Yeah so I think I will just politely tell them that I don't believe i should have to pay for the unauthorized labor and i will be more then happy to pay the 4 hours of diagnosis.

On a side note...
The steering dampener that they are replacing is 900 dollars... I was under the notion that they were alot cheaper than that.

I would take a zero off the dampener price and I would pay the bill...'cause you are going back again, I can guarantee that...isn't worth peeving them off for 2 hrs work that you didn't have to do...whether you could do it or not...its more important to have a dealership willing to work on our cars..especially as they get older and parts get harder to come by...just my .02

Doc, you make a very good point.

I just replaced my steering damper and it cost $30 and about 10-15 minutes work. $90 might be correct for the shop to do it.

BlackBeauty, the way I see it, your biggest mistake was not keeping your mice well fed. My mice feasted on dog food, and stockpiled it in my muffler.
This winter I'm keeping the dog food in steel containers, and just feeding the mice on a "mouse trap" buffet table.
I hope they don't discover the wiring entree.

While my car was at the dealer having the differential replaced under warranty they also found a transmission leak at the electrical connector. It sounds like something that owners need to be aware of as a potential problem.

In May of 2003 I bought a new Chevy S-10. Most of the winter I kept it in the garage. The snow goes away, I start up the truck and WTF, all the warning lights on the dash are going on, off, on, off, etc.
Go to the Chevy dealer. Dealer says, "We found a mouse nest with three baby mice in it. Momma must have gnawed the wires. Since gnawing isn't covered by the warrantee, we'll repair it for $400+".
I took it to a local shop and they connected all the severed wires for $50.00.

I've got squirrel problems with my cars. They get in chew wires, tear up the insulation, nest and bring food into the engine compartment. Not to mention ALL of the squirrel crap!
That's why I gotta sell some of my cars. Between the squirrels and the hot Arizona sun, they are going to waste.

Set a trap one time and caught a skunk!

i know this is kind of an old thread but i just wanted to post to say i am having similar probems on my SRT.

i was on the highway and all of a sudden my abs light, bas esp light and light malfunction indicator came on and my speedometer started jumping from 80mph to 40mph in unison with a blinking ABS light. I'm still under warranty s o it is at the dealer right now.
