Can I lock the car with the key in the ignition?
Its really cold here last night (-39 degree celcius), so I went out this morning to warm up my car (2005 Base). Started it up with no problems, but it wouldnt let me lock the doors so I leave it to warm up.
Is there any way to lock to the doors with the keys in the ignition? It wouldn't even let me lock it with the key.

Yep, can't be done, even with the other remote. In fact, the other remote will not do anything with the other key in the ignition. On the bright side. you can't lock the keys in your car.

So i guess no warming up the car? I can see it being a great function 3/4 of the year...kinda sucks that there is no way around it. Would be nice if i guy could use a key in the drivers side door to lock it.

I had a wireless starting system installed in my truck. I wake up, start vehicle from in the house( system does auto door lock), get coffee and leave. Coast was less than $ 200. Warm butt priceless,

All I really want is to start it, and lock the doors so it can idle.
Most auto experts will indicate that idling a car to warm it is not a good thing to do. Most people do it for personal comfort, or they might think that it is doing the car some good. There is a lot of info about this subject. Here's one article that discusses the ills of letting a car warm up at idle.

However, the reason they ticket 'offenders' in Spokane, WA is to deter theft. I do think it is a bad law. People should be able to abuse there car if they want, as long as they aren't hurting anyone. Oh, I guess it does hurt the environment which hurts us all??

The town of Jasper,Alberta, (in the rockies) has a no idling bylaw, mainly envioromental. At -40c my daily driver moans and groans even when pluged in. Electrical cords have to be rated at -40c or the will snap and short out. Many of our construction sites shut down below -26c as production drops of(as well as guys didgets)In a nut shell my Crossfire will not come out of the garage till the seagull's return

My friend, you are a tougher man than I. Around my neighborhood really cold means putting on a sweater.

So, what's the verdict?
I understand you cannot use the remote to lock / unlock when the key is in the ignition, but can you lock / unlock with the key in the door while another key is in the ignition?
