Default The Latest On My AC Noise Problem

I just replaced the cabin air filter and took the whole fan blower out. Just some moths and a couple leaves. Not bad for the first checkup in 3 and a half years.

The noise is still there behind the dash everytime I turn the AC off. It sounds like it is behind the passenger vent closest to the door. It is a clunk (sometimes more than one)... sometimes louder than others. After a second it is gone.

The AC works fine... it is just a noise. I have a warranty. Should I bring it in or leave it be? What would you do? Any thoughts on what the problem could be? A vacum line or shutter?

Could be the door for the hvac closing, I am not sure but I think it is operated electricaly.

Someone should pipe up if they know for sure.

The passenger side vent is easily accessible by opening the door and removing the dashboard side panel containing the passenger airbag disable switch.

It's actually quite interesting, you can see pretty much everything behind the dash through that opening.

Thanks.... if anyone has some kind of clue please let me know. I hate bringing the car in and I don't want to get the "I don't hear anything" or "that is normal" routine. I had this car almost 4 years and I know when I hear a strange noise.

If you can record and upload the sound, that would help us diagnose the issue.

Otherwise, you are really asking for something that we can only guess at.

I can't post an audio sample. I was just hoping someone else experienced the problem and could give me some kind of idea what the problem might be. I am not sure how the AC system works... but it could be the sound of a shutter door closing. It is just a couple of clunks and it is done.

Mine started to make noise, it's like the ac fan blades are rubbing on something.

If it is making a noise while it is running it could be a leaf or something in the blower. You can easily drop the blower and check it out. There was all kinds of stuff in mine.

However, my noise was something totally different. It was making a clunking noise only when I turn the blower on and off. It would spit out a couple clunks and then stop making the noise. It ended up being a HVAC door/flap way behind the dash. It was broken but everything is ok now. From what the dealer told me, they had to remove the whole dash to get back there (or at least slide the dash back). If anyone has any questions, email me....

I am experiencing this too. Took the cabin filter out and cleaned underneath the panel that drops down when you unplug the fan harness.

Sound is still there albeit not as loud. I fear taking it in.

This same thing just started to happen to me. When I have the blower on there is no sound. When the blower is off I hear this odd clicking/clunking sound (coming from the passenger side) that only happens every once in a while. The sound occurs only for a few seconds and then it goes away. It seems to occur at random. How did you go about getting them to fix it? Due to the fact it only occurs randomly, I fear that the dealer might tell me they can't hear anything...

Mine was doing it all the time when I turn the AC off. It would click for a few second and stop. They looked at the flap and told me they could see it was broken. They took my whole dash apart to replace that part! It is a pain in the neck. I think it was billed to Chrysler as a 600 dollar job covered under my warranty.
