Default Another newbie with questions ;)

Posted this on the European secton (seeing as I am UK based) - but it does look a little quiet - hope that this will be a better place....

Hi all!

I suspect that this is a question you'll not hear too often but here goes...

I'm thinking about buying a Crossfire (love the look/shape/style) and need to know what things to look out for in the UK that may not be covered in the FAQs (so far so easy!)... the rub is though that I am currently driving a Ford F150 Lightning and am a little concerned that the difference in power/performance might be a problem for me (not that I race everywhere, far from it, but the effortlessness of the L is something I suspect I might miss!) other choices to the Crossfire are the predictable 350Z (a LOT more money - but then again eventually a better resale), a Dodge Rumblebee (again more money but similar driving style to the L if not performance) or a Dodge Dakota R/T 5.9 (similar price to Crossfire but beter residuals, not as quick but quirkily different)

Any thoughts from you all? In whichever case I'm looking the 350 or CF will be pre March 06 to fall in with the cheaper road tax - for the R/T or Bee it's not an issue

Mind you I also suspect that getting my truck sold would also be a good start!!!

Any and all answers gratefully received!

waylander, welcome to a great forum and hopefully all of your questions will be answered. I would strongly suggest that you drive one first.....not just the usual short test drive, but take it out and drive it the way you normally drive the Lightning. I think most folks immediately look at the horsepower numbers and think they are getting shortchanged. While there is no replacement for horsepower and torque, gearing will do an incredible amount to overcome those shortcomings. It depends on the type of driving you do....whether stuck in heavy traffic most of the time, or long high-speed runs are the norm. But I would say that you can definitely put all the power available on the road, much easier than you can in the Lightning.

There are several great UK members and hopefully you are close enough to get together with one or more of them for a more educated answer based on the driving conditions there. Good luck, hope you find a great ride, and welcome.

Dan many thanks for your answer - very much appreciated... I must confess however that I am a little disappointed at the response from other members newbie, quite interested in buying a CF but I've obviously asked either the wrong question or the right question at the wrong time

Do they sell the SRT-6 in the UK? if so, there is your performance problem solved.

I dont think you asked at the wrong time or the wrong question. I think no one here has a lightning to compare it to. I found my 04 coupe to be comparable with my more horsepower but heavier corvette.
Hope that helps.

lol... I guess that it is a bit of a switch - I appreciate that the driving position will be a 'little different' as will the view. I suspect that the nearest cars I've owned to what a CF is like are a succession of IROC-Zs in terms of road-print and driving characteristics (low, firm) though the car itself is a whole lot more civilised and a nicer place to be...
