Default Tell me why...not...

This one takes the cake.

I got off from work and hit the road for home. I get on the four-lane, buzz up 20 miles, jump off and buy a 500GB drive for my sons' laptop. Hop back on the four-lane, double back a little bit, and continue toward home.

On the way, a fart-can equipped, fiber-winged Honda picked me up, shadowed me and then tried to bait me into a traffic weaving pattern. Not interested. Needle d|cks...

I continue on my way and an SUV is coming up fairly fast given that I'm running a little over the speed limit, but still under my usual 10% margin I try to observe.

The road is hilly and I'm coming to some slow moving trailer-truck traffic so I downshift to 5th, signal, wind it up and squirt past the trailers and nudge into the three digit zone for a few seconds. I lift and let it bleed off and here comes this SUV again, so I maintain a bit but notice it seems to be pacing me. No alert from the Radar Detector but it didn't "feel" right so I dribbled down to my usual speed zone.

The SUV goes past and it's a State Trooper. Doesn't even pull even and pace me - just goes right past like nothing happened and disappears into the night.

The question is, how the he|| did I get a pass? He had me dead to rights doing sinful digits. This is one of those "Why not?" type things. Why didn't he slam me up against the wall, take away my license, car and all?

Some things never make sense but I am grateful...

Something was far more interesting than a simple triple digit speeder,

You probably will never see that again!

It's happened to me. I think sometimes they see you do something like that, but they see it's not some knucklehead kid messing around, and they see you didn't get all crazy, and they let it slide.

Maybe he was on his way home and didn't want to stop.

Maybe he was on his way to something he didn't want to be late for.

Or maybe he ran your plates, didn't see any violations and figured he'd let you slide.

You never know.

I find that the older I get, and the nicer car I drive, the more slack I get - as long as I'm not being completely wreckless.

I was on a two-lane country road one night and I was doing 75-80 on my way home. The speed limit is 60, and there is never much traffic or any police on this stretch. I was coming up on this car and never thought anything of it, as I get close I finally see the gold "State Trooper" lettering on the trunk lid as he slows down and pulls over to let me pass. Crap, too late, I am screwed, I thought. As I passed I looked in my mirror, and he pulled a u-turn and went the other way. I was glad to get away, no matter what caught me the break.

I was on the highway and there was another car next to me we were doin prob 85-90 it was a 70mph zone and then we came up on a cop didnt no it but the lights went on and we were both like **** and slowed down. we both slowed down to like 20 neither 1 of us wanted to go past him. then he just makes a u-turn in the median and leaves. Don't know y he didnt get one of us we were both speeding and it was pretty obvious we knew it.

Think of it from the officers point of view. Do you think he really wanted to have to stand next to your car with your drivers window down and write you a ticket with that pungent odor emanating from your shorts.

Fun thing was, it didn't faze me a bit. That speed in this car just doesn't feel fast. And by the time I knew it was a trooper, he was going past me without a second look. Make no mistake, I made sure I didn't catch up to him but it surprised me not to be more freaked out. Maybe because I wasn't "doing anything wrong" (besides bending the needle a bit).

I have noticed that SUV's don't like being passed by our Xfires. Especialy Escalades

I was coming home from work in that kind of traffic where everyone seems to get in your way on purpose. I pulled a similar squirt to the right lane alongside a truck, bump up to triple digits and then duck back over. Pulled up alongside a dark SUV in the left lane doing 55 in a 65 zone. I went to 65, he kept up, I went to 70. He was pacing me. I hate it when they do that.

This went on for about a mile. I didn't look over to see but whatever speed I went, so did he. 75. Then 80 then... Suddenly, from out of nowhere, a loud BLIP and a siren. The bugger was a cop! He looked over and smiled. Sucker knew he had just wet my pants.

And then, he went on.

I counted my blessings and went home.

PPro,

If it makes you feel any better I got pulled over on Valentine's day with my lady in the car.

For what? "Disregarding" a stop sign. He said I COMPLETELY didn't stop and just ran it, when I in fact almost was at a complete stop.. was one of those rolling stops. There was zero traffic and it was at night. Makes me wonder if he saw me wrong, but then again I decided not to push my luck and argue with him, it would get me nowhere except more trouble.

Glad you got passed up and let off, shame I didn't for such BS.

I had the same thing happen to me... rolling stop. in my own apartment complex. dumb.

my speed hasn't topped the limit very much except...

last sunday i was heading home from a friends with a buddy of mine in the car. doing 60 in a 55...which isn't really speeding. then a 325xi got up on my toosh real quick then rode me for a while.... then he passed and slowed down.

so i dropped it into third at about 60 and took off. just played with him. hit 80, then let off. then he came screaming by. slowed down and pretty much paced me. then he hit, so did i. the 70-130 went by quickly and he drifted further and further back. hilarious.

next came the loser fly by after i let off. followed by countless 'that was awesome', 'i felt that in my gut', etc by my buddy....

now if only i can get into an SRT...hmmm...

Talking Re: Tell me why...not...

I got on I-5 and notice that one lane was empty and all the other lanes were jam packed. I got in the empty lane and got up to 75, when an unmarked police car pulls behind me and starts flashing his lights at me. I drop down to 60mph, the speed limit, and he pulls up to the left of me and opens his window yelling and pointing for me to slow down. Then he speeds away.

Driving home one day, I pulled up behind a washington state patrol car at a red light. When it turned green, I tailed him pretty close going up to 40mph, the speed limit was 35mph. He changed lanes to let me pass then pulls me over. He asks, "Why are you following me so close?" and then for my drivers license but not my registration or insurance. I dont have anything on my driving record. He comes back to tell me that I should be 10 feet back from the car ahead for every 10 mph I'm going. "Ok, I didn't know that" I said. He goes on to say that my back license plate cover which was a smoke color and the skull frame was illegal but made my car look cool and that I should have a front license plate. Told him, "Got the car at the dealers without front plates and bought the rest a schucks." He then gives me a little advice that next time I want to tail anyone make sure they dont have lights on the top of their car and lets me go with a warning.

I wish I had some doughnuts so I could have said, "I was following so I could give you these."

Your comment reminded me of a story. We were working a bad wreck involving a car and a horse pulling a wagon. The horse sustained four broken legs, but was alive and in extreme pain. The owner was hysterical and asked my partner to put the horse down. My partner, who owns a farm and is used to this kind of thing, get his AR15 out of his trunk and puts the poor thing out of her misery.
A short time later we went to get a coffee at the local gas station and a woman approached us and said, " Did you get some jelly from your doughnut on your pants ? My partner, without missing a beat, said, " No, I just had to shoot someones horse and that is some of her brain matter on my pants." She turned white and walked away without another word.

Cops don't like doughnut jokes.

I only have one pull over so far, 39mph in a 30. Of course it was on an extremely tight hairpin on the "Dragon". Cop let me off with a warning. Told me he couldn't imagine what I was going on the straighter parts.

Now, that's troubling. I can't remember going 30 MPH anywhere on the Dragon.

What would be the point of that?
