Default Horn Volume!

Hi everyone, I'm not a constant horn blowing type driver, but in 8 months of owning my '05 coupe I've noticed that my horn volume is kinda low and actually sounds lame compared to stock factory horns on my other vehicles. Not having other Crossfires around to compare with, I wonder if this is normal ? or is mine defective?..Any advice would be welcomed..Thanks

I think it is the norm. I replaced mine with Hella horns. There have been some reports on either one or the other horn not working so you may want to check them and wiring to see if that is the problem.

Thanks for the info. You also answered my next question which was what brand of horns would be a good replacement. Thanks again.

Were the Hellas a direct fit? Part number and price would be helpful. A direct replacement with a louder horn is attractive.

I've been eyeballing some inexpensive air horns (< $40) which I used to have on a TR6 years ago, but have held off because I did not want to change from stock. I may look at just adding them in under the hood and wiring them in parallel with the existing horn.

I installed Air Horns on mine and they work great. They are pretty loud too.

Check the connections on your horns, one of mine wasn't making a good connection where it plugs in and with only one working it sounds like it belongs to a Fiat or VW Beetle...

They are a direct replacement....couldn't be easier.

I'm putting in new horns right now. Check "technical or modification section" - Stebel Nautilus Compact horns. I'll post some pictures in the next few days.

Borican:

How did you wire them? Are the horns positive switched or negative? The diagram would suggest negative switched. Installing nautilus air horn on half with relay and fuse. Want to verify switching polarity. Thought your experience might help me.

That thread is over 7 years old and I haven't seen that member on here since I joined in 2012 but I'm sure if you search you can find another relevant thread. I do agree, the horns aren't loud, I just purchased 2 from Sickspeed rated at 118 db.
