Default All Season Tires $185 option...WHY?

Why were/are the Conti-All Season tires a $185 option.....when you go to Tire Rack....a set of the PS2s costs almost $400.00 more than a set of the Conti-All Seasons?

According to Tire Rack the PS2s were the original equipment tires, & the all season Contis were also ....the Contis are listed on the MSRP stickers as a +$185.00 option.....doesn't make sense ....cause the PS2s are a much more expensive tire....almost $400 more from Tire Rack....seems like the Crossfires with the Contis should have had a $3-400 lower price ...not an additional $185 option charge???

I see what you mean now, that is crazy. I guess because most people would opt for the all seasons over the performance tires since they would never race them.

This has been discussed before and there is no obvious explanation. I would guess there are two possibilities:

1. Chrysler negotiated a volume deal on the PS2s and got a great price from Michelin as the OEM tire supplier. Maybe Chrysler actually paid more for the Continental all-seasons.
2. Chrysler sought to take advantage of customers who naively thought that somehow all-season tires were naturally more expensive than high performance summer tires since they offer some capability to be driven in frozen precipitation (of course, at the expense of both dry and wet, non-frozen pavement handling).

I would lean towards #2 since many, if not most, Crossfires in northern climates had the "option." Since the vast majority of Crossfires were purchased at huge discounts, the tire price option probably didn't figure in sales prices anyway.

A class action lawsuit? Then I'd have to get up in court and tell the world how I stole my 07 Crossfire from the dealer and Daimler-Chrysler. No thanks - I'll eat the $185!
