Default trustworthy mechanic?

Can anyone out there help me? I live in northern Indiana, South Bend area, and I'm looking for a mechanic I can trust to work on my x-fire. I have an '04 that is totally stock with 56k miles on it. It runs good once it get going but acceleration from a stop it pitiful. This car WILL NOT turn the tires over! I love the car but would probably love it more if it had a better take off! Does anyone know of a shop that works on crossfires in my area that knows what they are doing? I went to an independent shop that "specializes" in German inmports and they said they don't work on Chryslers! Help!!!

First, if you have an autostick make sure the switch on the side is set for S, not W.

Would I have better luck at a Chrysler dealership or Mercedes? I'm sure the mercedes will cost mer per hour but if it's done right?....

Most Mercedes dealers won't touch an XF.

Chrysler dealers generally suck when it comes to XF's.
Due to low produce numbers very few techs were trained.

Maybe you can find a dealer that sells both or actually has an XF trained tech.

For a start, check codes and see what some of the XF gurus on this forum have to say.
Also, use the searcg function like crazy; this has probably happened before and been solved.

Ask and ye shall receive.
You're lucky to be in striking distance of one of the few XF specialists.

(In case you haven't noticed, this forum is awesome! )

Detroit is about 4-1/2 hours from here. I probably would have to take a day off work to do that. It might take some co-ordinating but...maybe?

Then I'd try other options first:

> search, search, search, and

> pull codes and post them.

Do you get a check engine light?
Is it the same hot or cold? Does the temp gauge go over half way?
Can you tell if the prob is engine or transmission?
Does it do any better if you select the gears manually?

It might not be a bad idea to start a new thread on the "Engines & Exhaust" forum to attract the eyes of the more mechanically inclined members;
state your prob in the thread title, eg - "04 Limited - low power at start".

Perhaps you can show up at a local Mercedes mechanic, and have a bit of a heart to heart. Once you pop the hood and he sees business on familiar turf, he might want to take on the job. In my case, I had to talk to the service manager at the local Chrysler/Merc dealer, get him to admit that the didn't have an SRT6 tech, and agree to use the Merc techs if needed for diagnosis and QC.

I appreciate your input! This seems to an engine issue. When you put your foot on the gas it bogs dowm. Maybe just a thourough tune up...maybe an injector problem. I'll talk to a couple of the local dealerships to find a tech with experience on xfires. Thanks again, I'll post what I find out!

Hey, Terry, sorry to hear you are having problems, I am bringing my mechanic up to date on my SRT...I will ask him if he is interested....Rob, @ Needswings is the best...we are 2-3 hrs away as well....but my mechanic is really learning our cars...hoping to stay up to date, cause there isn't anyone that wants to work on them...lucky to have this guy as a friend. He's my old Chevy mechanic, but loves my car, so he is willing to take it on. Good luck, nice to hear from ya....

Hey Doc..how are you? I can't beleive there isn't anyone in a Chrysler franchise that hasn't been certified to work on these cars! And if so...why are they so hard to find. It's frustrating to have such a neat car and your on your own to find a mechanic that is even interested in it!...There! I vented! Anyway...I'll figure something out, and let you all know!

Just thought I'd let you guys know...I got my xfire fixed! A friend of a friend had a mechanic that suggested we start with the feul filter. I must be living right! The filter was $85.00 but it took care of the problem 100% I've had this car for three years and thought it was quick, what I didn't know was really how quick it could be if it was runnig right. WOW what a difference! Problem solved.

while you are at it look at the seafoam treatment helps alot for tune ups

long story short

buy 2 bottles at parts store like 8 bucks a bottle

dump 1 bottle in gas tank.

dump half bottle using the vacuum from brake booster or some other method to get it into all the cylinders

once you dump half you want the car to stall out or shut it off and let the seafoam sit inside the engine for 15-20 min,

turn on car and you will see lots of smoke and hit the gas hard to get it worked in.

pour the other half in your oil100-300 miles before the oil change.

You may want to give Jason at InTune Imports (Holland MI) a call at 616-392-4155 (email jason@intuneimports.com). We're about 90 minutes north of you, straight up 31. He has worked on my Audi for 4 years and has done oil changes and brakes on my SRT6. It hasn't needed any other non-warranty work. He does a lot of Audi, BMW, and Mercedes work. Suggest you call him and chat to see if he is comfortable doing tune-up work on what is basically an SLK320.
