potholes...oh god the potholes!!!
So this is mostly just a vent. This morning, I was driving into work minding my own business. Its still kinda dark and at the last minute I see this pothole...Now i have lived in Michigan my whole life so they really arnt a new thing but i mean this thing actually took a chunck of rubber out of the tire. well anyways, I am sitting at belletire right now getting a new T1R put on. All i can say is with calling in "sick" + new tire = lost vacation money. just a little pissed at the moment
words can not express the pain you just went through... dodging holes is a way of life now a days esp with the new black tar roads there putting down here in nc. I hate the raised manhole covers too. When i had a earlier car i ran over one at night tore my right shock brace
I feel your pain. It seems when ever I lecture my wife on how to avoid them I hit one. We have some terrible roads in the Maryland area as well. At least it was 'just' a tire. I 've had clients loose an entire front end.
Come to Brooklyn, NY...I don't think the lunar rover would last too long here but so far with all the bouncing and falling into the open wounds in the pavement my X-fire is still solid and no tire or rim damage ..... yet.
I think we are the pot hole capital of the world. Every street is so bad you cant even go around them. There is no area to go around. I should post pics of the side streets around here.
Potholes? We got em. Hammered one yesterday so hard I bit my tongue. There had obviously been some road work where they had to cut out a section of concrete. The sucker was 8 feet wide, 4 feet long and six inches deep. All the edges were right angles as cut by a concrete saw. Thought sure I was going to be buying rims and tires. The b_stard is filled in this morning. Now it is just lumpy but not a killer. They (my tax dollars at work) knew that they created this monster. A little warning would have been nice. Closing the darn lane would have been nicer. Don't know who the road commissioner for Mt. Prospect is but I wouldn't mind getting a shot a him with a creme pie.
Use Some Of The Kennedy Money And Fix Your Roads Oh! I'm Sorry Stimulus Money Should Only Help The Rich Not Actually Do Something To Help The Country How Much Pork Was It 285 Million Sorry Just Trying To Get Your Roads Fixed
I've travelled all over the country, and outside the country. I do it for a living, and have for over 15 years.
Believe me when I say, Michigan is the pothole capitol of the world! We even assign those ba$tards their own ZIP codes!
BTW....I think it's hilarious going to the southern states where they are fond of putting up signs that say "bump".............I end up a mile down the road thinking "where the hell was there a bump?"

I agree with AIG, my 3am commute to work from Brooklyn to Manhatten is like going thru a minefield in a video game! Luckily I've scouted a route using my FJ Cruiser that has satisfactorily minimized damage to my favorite Baby!(chromed out '05 Limited Coupe) Almost like a big bro looking out for his lil' bro!LOL
Nox: Im from Dearborn Heights, but if you see a Blaze red coupe up your way it might be me. Im doing soem contract work with your city right now.
I remember once down in Atlanta, I was visiting some family. I was driving with my uncle and he was complaining at how "rough" his road is. I look over at my coffee mug and the coffee barely has a ripple in it.

I used to run those tires on my cobra, after they quit making the t1's. They were very good tires, especially with all of the suspension work I had done to it. They would handle backroad twisties, beyond my comfort zone. I used to hate driving on the highways, in KC MO because of potholes.

I always thought California was the worst state for potholes. I see so many road patches in some areas, that there's literally patches on top of patches, with little of the original road left.
I listen to a law talk radio program when I'm on the road at times, and I can swear that the lawyer said if you hit a pot hole that does damage to your vehicle, you could take whatever entity is responsible for the road to small claims court, or open a claim directly with them to cover your losses.

I've lived in NYC for a few years and, man, the roads there are the pits! I almost got myself killed a few times trying to avoid potholes. After that, I just decided I could not care about my car anymore.
Ahh... after many years of going to grad school in Hartford, Ct, living in NYC, and doing internship in Philly, I came back home to Seattle, WA. It's so nice. Potholes are hard to find here, especially in the suburbs where I live. Milk smooth asphalt roads all around.... damn, I love it.
Oh.. sorry to those who live on the moon.. I mean Michigan...and NYC..

Chicago, this winter, was filled with these things. I was afraid to drive.
I cross Michigan I96 every week and just got back from a trip to Fond du Lac WI, going from west Michigan around the lake thru Chicago. Lots and lots of pot holes and even more just rough, ragged road. I'm lucky that I'm not picked up for suspicion of drunk driving as I dodge these pits, jerking back and forth across my lane trying to miss them or straddle them.
Hopefully the patching crews will be out now that the weather is a little nicer.
