Potential rust location
I just noticed as I was opening my hatch today that there is rust starting to form under the paint. It is a small area surrounding the handle that is used to open the hatch. I don't know if water is intruding above from the wing or emblem area, or if water has just splashed up from the outside and somehow gotten between the plastic handle housing and the metal. Might be something to be checked.
Is this something that should be covered under the corrosion warranty?

This same thing is happening to my car also, took it to the dealer and they repaired it under warranty, but I am under the 3/36 warranty still. I'm thinking that because it is exposed to the elements, and that there is not enough paint around the edge of the opening for the handle assembly, is why its starting to rust, so keep a look out for that area too, with the wheel wells and the door seal area's as well.
You guys don't mention if you own SRT-6's or not.
There is a thread around here somewhere that pertains to a rust issue under the SRT wing.

If that is the issue that would help explain why you're getting rust on the hatch release.

Rust should be thought of as a slow fire. Fire is fast oxidation, Rust is slow oxidation.
If you take away any of the three needs, oxidation is stopped.
Fire needs three things
1. fuel
2. heat
3. oxygen
Rust also needs three things
1. metal
2. moisture
3. oxygen
