Hi-Performance Oil catch can kit for the crossfire
After doing a flash mod and adding larger injectors plus the CA induction and a sprint booster I have noticed what appears to be a black powder like residue on the inside of the tail pipe. Have to clean it every couple of days.
My Limited runs very strong but seems to use up more gas then before the change was made.
I am wondering if it has anything to do with the intake manifold and to much oil getting through leaving the deposit. Has anyone added a catch can between the PCV valve and the air intake manifold or between the cylinder head cover and the air intake on a crossfire.
I know these are used on hi performance imports with a turbo and they work quite well.
There are several catch can kits on the market for the crossfire. One that I am interested in is a Needswings Crossfire oil catch can kit. They have it installed on their hi-performance SRT-6. Has anyone installed this kit or any other, and how hard was it to install. Also did it help.

but perhaps the reason why you're using more gas is the fact you installed LARGER FUEL INJECTORS ??? if you're running rich then it may be your tune.. sounds like you purchased one of the TvT kits.. maybe talk to anthony and see what he has to say ?
Glock,
I have the Needswings oil catch can installed on my ’08 Roadster. I have only had it installed for a couple of weeks but it works and looks great. First let me say that this product looks like it came from the factory. The fit and finish on this gets an A+. The design was well thought out and the engineering and R&D (thanks Needswings & Waldig) is excellent.

I installed the catch can the first afternoon we had a70 degree day here in the land of two seasons and everything went very smooth. I did have a couple of questions when I did the install so I called Rob at Needswings. Rob was fantastic; he took the time to talk to me on the phone and even searched through his photo archives and sent me pictures to help answer my questions (excellent customer service)
.
Aside from the time it took for Rob to get me on the right track the installation can be done in less than an hour even if you are taking your time. Needswings provides a fairly concise set of instructions but they are geared towards the SRT 6 and not the NA (this difference is what generated my questions).
I will be posting DIY instructions for the NA install in the next couple of days. I have been meaning to do this since I did the install but work keeps getting in my way
but your post is reminding me to complete this and put it out there for other NA owners.
I highly recommend this product; first rate engineering, fit, finish and customer support. Most importantly I believe my engine will benefit from this for years to come. Get one you won’t regret it.
Stay safe…

to catch oil lolz
i think the issue is oil gets into the intake area and will rob the car of some power and you will not be able to make the same amount of power consistently. this helps clean up the path of airflow. more or less catch oil vapor.
do you research they had a thread on hear about the catch can and some really good info is in there
Wow I get all a twitter ( wrong media I know ) when I hear reports of the designs that I assisted with. Having one from the beginning I love emptying mine by going under the car with one hand and catch the yuck. I get a lot of water cause its cold now and I do stop and GOOOOO driving while testing projects.
THe water and oil caught is interesting in a geeky way, but its a car and fun to work on and play with. There is more neet stuff coming, cause I own a srt that has more miles going up and down than Paris hilton (on the lift).
Enjoy, woody PS who else has stainless steel wool for a media in their catch can?? Made to last.

Thanks faiz23 - I'm lazy and I knew you guys would have a simple, concise answer. Makes sense to me, one more thing to add to my list of things to do. Appreciate your response.

It happens on modified cars, especially those with a turbo.

By the way these can really be helpful in terms of extending your engine life/performance. Not just a wasted costly add-on. Or for my particular application. Having read quite a few specs on this engine it is probably a good idea to have one. They can cost anywhere from $10.00 for one that is homemade to $80.00-$300.00 average for one designed for the Crossfire. There is quite a lot of info on these if you do a web search. As you can see from Mister Taz it can be installed at home.
What I can disclose to date was the super cooler and the super separator or the catch can. If your really into it you can find A/C parts in some of these cause they make for easier construction.
There are 2 more for Rob and possibly 2 beyond that if they pass my muster for operability and benefit.
On my own there are a zillion including the first hood with cooling grills that are 100% functional. Iam almost ready to show off my work on a euro os sorts battery when ready next week. Check my postings under my avatar symbol.
Almost the weekend and I gots to do some MORE painting, this will raise some eyebrows too, yippie its gonna be sixty & sunny............W

What kind of gas are you using? If you run a "top tier" gas your pipes will stay clean.
Do a search for "top tier" gas and review the threads. The only thing that keeps mine clean is Shell.

Glock,
Are you running the 93 octane? Vpower.
I have noticed a big difference in the 89 octane from one Shell to another.
I ran the 89 for a couple of long trips and the mileage results were very different depending on where it was purchased.
