Default SLK with rack and pinion steering.

I was at the auto show the other day and found out the new Merc SLK's have rack and pinion steering.

Does anyone know if the XF could be retro-fitted with this system?

If it costs an arm and a leg, forget it, but I might consider it if it only costs an arm or so.

You're talking "Mercedes Benz"

You're not talking arm & a leg, you're talking both arms, both legs, possibly your brain, but definitely your neck, back, and feet.

You're in for chassis mods, suspension mods, new steering box, new steering pump, not to mention all the linkage and the rack itself. At the end of the day you will also lose turning circle and the turns lock to lock will be different. May I suggest a Mustang II front steering conversion - all the rage with the hot rod crowd....

Let's see if I understand correctly...

You're saying I can't pay the neighbors kid $15 to glue a new one on? Is that what you're saying?

No, actually one of my Crossfire's has rack and pinion. It was pretty easy to install.

Here's a picture of it (click).
