Hi everyone,
I am seriously thinking about buying a 05 limited coupe from Carmax. It will be my primary car. I live in Columbus, Ohio so it will be driven in rain and snow as well as on the nice days. Will it hold up to everyday use? My biggest concern is being able to fit my 6 foot 2, 250 pound husband in it, since he will have to drive it occaisionally. Are there any tricks to maximizing the space on the driver side? If I can't get him stuffed in it, I probably can't buy it. I read the posts on the door rust and tire issues, anything else I need to look at before buying?

Hi Valerie, There are actually bigger guys (than your husband) who own coupes, so it's all good.
There is a "trick" to make the drivers seat go to its limit, but my 6'2" frame still fits comfortably in my 04. I'm not that comfortable in the passenger seat, so he may need to drive YOUR car anytime the two of you go out together in it.
Famous forum member "Andrew" drove his Crossfire for 3 years in Columbus year round. As does lovely forum member "Melspank". (and hers is an SRT)! So there's no reason why you can't.

I bought mine from Carmax, and I would do it again. Very easy process, and a Great car.

Im 6foot 1 and 220 And have no issues. But I agree the passenger seat is cramped. I also drive year round in Mansfield ohio about 45 minutes north

 

At 6'1" and 230 I find the drivers side about as close a fit as I would want - not a problem but would not want to be an inch taller and 20 pounds bigger - it would be too tight for me as a daily driver - but doable as a sometimes thing.

As for the rust problem - I think it might be a bit over-played. It merits attention but to me is nothing compared to some rust problems.

 

I wouldn't recommend it. I'm a little north of you in Michigan, but I have to drive the car year long and in the winter time, the snow is brutal. I cannot drive it anywhere, I usually take my dads truck if I need to go to work or school. If you have another car that will be realiable and always at your disposal for the snow, GO FOR IT! It is an awesome car. I just know if I had to rely on this car for the snow, well i'd be fucked on more then one occasion.

I'm 6'1" / 205# and fit very comfortably.
Go for a test drive and be prepared to take it home cause you will want to I assure you.

I drove 45 miles one way just to see if I could get my 6'2" - 255 Lbs. body into one. Drove her home 4 hours later.

 

Definately go for it.

I am 6'3" and well more than 250 and I fit. In fact, I fit quite nicely into her. I would definately go see for yourself and drag him along (or at least a cardboard cutout) to see what he thinks of both the driver and passenger seats....

I can't comment on the size question which is what you had asked. We too live in Michigan and Nox1s post would seem to me to be an overriding issue: Safety

I love our car would walk/bike and sell the daily drivers to keep it, but all of this is secondary to safety.
Just because you want it does not mean it's the right choice to make. *
We had occasion to drive it Sunday night in that snow/sleet/slush storm that came through here.
This is not a car to have for winter conditions or driving in the snow with.
You can send PMs to the members who live in the "snow states" ask them what they have experienced while driving in the winter. You will get pretty good info that way.
You know if you'll have another car to use during the winter, a Crossfire is not the car to drive in the snow with period IMHO, which is no better or lesser than another's.

follow that simple formula and the car will be fine year round.

 

I don't recommend it. These cars get tiring in my opinion as daily drivers. I do not drive mine every day and I certainly don't drive it in bad weather. Just getting into and out of the car is a bit exhausting when running errands. It can take it, but due to the higher cost of repairs, lack of quality service providers, and a higher cost of maintenance, I wouldn't want to deal with it as a daily drier.

 

I have found driving in winter a challenge but not impossible. I drive mine year round, yes, even in the rain and snow. It`s a daily driver no second car for me. I drove home from work in 6 inches of snow and had no problems. This is my third winter with no problems, never been stuck. Just remember slow and steady. As for the husband I`m sure he`ll fit. I really don`t know as I drive solo most of the time . I can`t remember the last time someone road with me. Go ahead buy it you`ll love it. Oh by the way, Hi Mike.

Congrats Valerie. I don't know where you are located, but you should definatley look for a regional club/group and meet other members. It is always a sure thing for good times...

As for the winter driving, i have had mine for 2 mi winters now and have had no problems (it is my daily). Just remember the old saying "slow and steady" because the traction control and ESP work great in this car. If you feel the rear end getting away from you, let up a bit on the gas and it will get right back in line. another tip, if you can see a red light or can predict a red light slow down so that by the time you get to it... it will be green again.

 

Congrats on the new car. The guys all talk about the "perma grin". Believe me, it's a female thing too !

I'm close to you in Dayton, mine is a daily driver so our winter weather is close (sometimes !) I found this winter that if I added weight in the back ( 2-60# sand tubes) it made a world of difference.

As the other's said, slow but sure and anticipate the lights, especially on hills !

She doesn't need tube sand. All she has to do is stick her 250 lb husband in the car.

My son drove his XF most of the winter, and we get a lot more snow than Dayton....over 120" this year. When there is snow on the ground he leaves it home. It's just not worth the risk of having some careless a-hole hit him. I test drove a Crossfire back in Jan 05 on icey roads and it drove great -- the ABS kept it under complete control while braking. On the other hand, my SRT6 was delivered in January of last year from Chicago. The salesman had no problem the whole way (150 miles - and it snowed the whole day) until he hit my street with 8" of unplowed snow. It took me and a couple neighbor kids to push the car the last couple hundred feet to my house.

 

Its no problem I am 6 feet 3 and 240 pounds and fit great in my 05'. Amazing car good luck!!!
