I've just looked through the MSN list of 50 ugliest cars. I obvioulsy don't agree with the Crossfire being in there. Anyone who says the Crossfire is ugly simply has dog-poo in their eyes, and it isn't the car! It is one of the best looking cars on the road today. On a trip which required a longish motorway drive with a friend of mine my friend told me that people in the car next to us were staring. I couldn't look, but he said he saw what he assumed to be the wife mouthing "that's really nice". Noone, apart from the Clarkson influenced person I mentioned earlier, dislikes the look of my Crossfire. Noone is indifferent about it either. They all love it.

I can think of a few cars to put in the 50 ugliest cars list long before the Crossfire needed to go in there.

BMW 1-Series Hatchback. Most ugly hatchback for decades.
BMW 3-Series Saloon. The back end is just wrong. (3-Series Coupe puts this right and is a nice looking car for it)
BMW 7-Series, especially before they fixed it!
BMW X5. Lumpen, and pointless.
BMW X3. As above, but smaller.
BMW X6. Yeuch.
Before anyone says I am a BMW hater, I'd like to point out that I like the Z4, the 3-Series Coupe, the 5-Series isn't bad, the 6-Series is ok, not exactly what I'd call a looker, but not too grotesque.

I find it a joke that people will put up with such poor taste in styling for the sake of branding and badge kudos.

 

I find it really hard to believe that this car is considered ugly. Compared to what? Perhaps it's just me, but I have always preferred 'different' looking cars. My favorite cars through the years were my 1970 Datsun 240Z, 1998 BMW Z3, my Crossfire (of course!), and even my trusty 1998 BMW323is. These cars were not always the fastest (my husband's Liberty Edition Jaguar XK8 can peel the paint off of any of them), or had what can be considered a lot of power (again, hubby's 500+ HP '69 Camaro comes to mind), but NEVER have I ever gotten any disparaging remarks on any of the cars, even the 323is (though, to be fair, this little car kept pace with my husband's Jag).

I love the profile these cars have. Sorry for those that have 350Zs, the one from Lexus, all the other 2-door sports cars, and to me, they all look the same. I have to take a good look at the badge to see what kind of car it is. The same seems to go for any type of car. I like BMWs, but after 2000, the whole look of the car changed, and now the BMW looks like a Mercedes which looks like a Lexus which looks like the Fords, Chevys, etc. I wanted something UNIQUE. I understand the need for practical vehicles, but still...

My little red car stands out in my parking lot at work. The Winter Texans joke about the giant tires but Love the car; the young interns all want to talk to me about the car and to a one, have regretted their purchases of the otherwise decent Hondas and Toyotas when they find out that not only is my car younger than theirs, but I paid a whole lot less.

I bought this car as a newer substitute to my old beloved but fraught with issues 240Z. No car is perfect, and frankly, I could care less what kind of power in under the hood of my car since I don't make it a habit of driving in the triple digits. The car LOOKS fast even standing still. It fits me perfectly, and I have never regretted this purchase.

 

I love Top Gear and I find Clarkson to be hilarious. If you don't watch the show or just watch segments where american cars are reviewed, you would think he hates americans. But that's not true. He hates everyone, including his own people. He gives ALL groups a hard time. If he hated the US so much, why would Top Gear have filmed at least 2 complete episodes over here? The episode where they were in florida and bought a bunch of heaps may be my favorite of all time.

But regarding his comments on the crossfire, he wasn't exactly wrong on all points. Looks are subjective, so that's a toss up depending on who you ask. The crossfire isn't a universal looker for all people. It does have some odd angles that are not very flattering. I can't really fault the guy for pointing out the fairly abundant weak points of the car in relation to its competitors with are mostly of higher performance. If that's all you're after in a car, then the crossfire really is a poor choice.
