That's a C43/E55 AMG air box and probably the best flowing set ups AMG ever created. If those things weren't so pricey I'd be offering them for the Crossfires over the other MB conversion.

Congrats on the project. Did you switch to a clutch fan or were you able to keep the electric one?

The engine bays in these cars are extremely similar to the W202 (hint to anyone looking for parts to work on a swap) so I know how tight of a fit that thing is.

Yea I thought it looked like a C43 but couldn't remember the 55 that used the same airbox. Interesting what you said about the fan. I wanted to keep mine looking factory OEM but not if I had to use a clutch fan. the only fan and shround I found that would work was a clutch type fan which is what I suspect is in this car. I have two 12" electric fans that I intend to use unless I can find a MB electric fan and shroud that will work.

The C43 uses a clutch fan, hooks to the water pump. You may be able to fine some very thin electric fans, non OEM, and make them work though.

i did find two very thin 12" fans that are very powerful. I know the C43 fan and shroud will work but I didn't want the HP drain of a clutch fan. I was looking for an OEM electric fan that was thin enough and fit the radiator but without success. Maybe CLK500?

Check out the clutch design of the C43 fan, it has about as much drain on the system as the AC, which is very minimal.

CLK500 and CLK55 have more engine room in the bay though.

Hi,

thanks for congratulations . In the last time I spend so much time to set up the engine, transmission and much more that I can say, donīt do it becuase that project will kill you. You will spend so much money and time that your wife doesnīt know who you are .

The mechanical part isnīt a big deal overall, the most time I spend in the electrical stuff.

Mercedes build V8 with black airbox and some one with silver airbox, isnīt any different beetween this stuff.

regards from Germany.

Max

I checked with Startech before I started my project and was told that they only built two of them. One is in the UK and the other is in Germany. They had no interest in telling anything about how they did it.

purebred sports car with extreme performance potential: The Coupe V8 6.1 takes just 4.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 - 100 km/h. Top speed is 300 km/h.
What the??? why would you spend $137,000 EURO doesnt a stock SRT do 0-62mph quicker then that anyway?

Im sure its been done,
but I doubt that a guy who just changed out engines would just happen to have the old cover sitting right there against the wall and he has not one pic in his gallery.
Could this be (photoshop maybee) and or just wants to stir things up.

Doubtful. . . .

Looks real to me. I sure would like to hear it though. As he said and I already figured out, mechanically the the engine bolts right in but the electronics are the issue.

I would like more details on this.

I thought about this the other day as a current body style mustang GT rumbled past. It would be fantastic to put in the 4.6L V8 fromt the GT into the crossfire as the sound alone would really compliment the car. It's just too damn quiet in stock form!

SRT I saw 5 flat to low 5's in different articles I'm sure it comes on in the mid to top end with it's power probably a mid to low 12 second car. Your right though for that price buy an SRT and drop a few bolt on's on it and your neck to neck with it. For around 18-20k US.

How about cutting the front off the car at the firewall, then welding in the front of an S-class? That would give you plenty of room

Hi,

the V8 radiator have the same part number like the V6 but the V8 have two fan for AC and than you need the fan signals from SAM to get rpm on it!. The oilpan isnīt any problem, donīt set your focus on this.

You need a different gearbox and the pcm for it, than set up all PCM inside the car for the VIN of the masterkey, ODO, engine PCM, key entry PCM and much more. That ist the biggest deal of all.

Isnīt so easy to move an engine from a Ford or GM or anything else, because the communication works about CAN BUS, engine CAN "A" and interior CAN "B"!! So mercedes use different PCM like Siemens or Fujitsu or Bosch with different software. Good luck!!

regrdas V8 Max.

No the Super charged V8 can be found in the E55 and SL55 but not in the ML.
