Default SLK/Crossfire base seats

This could be something everyone has noticed. I was once again proving I have no life by browsing Fleabay endlessly and noticed that the seats in the SLK are just leather-clad versions of the cloth seaths of the Base XF. This, ladies and gentlemen, is my useless factoid of the day.

They will fit but the wiring for the passenger airbag system is different on the older manual style seats. They also have power seats that look identical, save the **** on the side for recline adjustment.

It's a seat belt extension.

Yeah, i always knew to a degree the seats were interchangeable and that there have been numerous threads about seat swaps, I just never noticed how the seats themselves were identical to those seats in the base XF models.

I like my base seats because you really stay in them through the turns, not like sliding on leather.

I have considered doing an SRT seats swap, but the benz seats aren;t bad looking and certainly do look like a direct replacement. Thanks for the info Volvo guy LOL

It's a slip and slide on these. My friend almost traded me the leathers out of his SLK until he told me why he wanted my clothes. Ahh, the joys of owning the base model... no slip and slide seats, no sh!tty imitation cup holder, no TPMS sensors that quick workign for no apparent reason and no seat heaters to short out and not heat. LOL

I'm just thinking out loud here, but, instead of swapping out the seats, wouldn't it be easier to swap out the seat coverings?

Definitively not easier to just swap coverings. It's a chore and took me about 2 hours to pull the covers, take pictures and put it all back together. Time to take it out of the car is 5 minutes. Disconnect the battery, remove the 4 bolts holding on the seat, remove the seatbelt from the seat, unplug the wires under the seat, and do the reverse to install the new one.

I hear you on the sliding point. I was driving a '99 SLK for a couple of weeks last month and the seats were identical to the first pic. Nice and firm but did not hold at all. I was sliding all over the place. I would have to say the Alcantara inserts of the SRT seats would be better in general.

Are the bottom side bolsters lower on the SLK? The bolsters on my Limited are too high for my taste-put too much pressure on my legs.

Motivated by this thread, I looked on ebay to find out that the SLK32 AMG appears to have the same seats as the limited cars. Seems like the crossfire limited is hybrid of sorts between the SLK320 and the SLK32.

I was going to buy a set of slk seats tomarrow to replace my base cloth seats in my 05 base roadster. the new ones are manual just like my factory seats. How is the passenger airbag tied into the seat? (If that is what you were implying) I have not had my seats out yet. Is there more than just a seatbelt insertion sensoror maybe a pressure sensor to let the car know if the seat is occupied? Have you actually done this swap on a base model before? If its a pain in the a$$ then I don't want any part of it. Thanks for your knowledge on the topic rcompart.

The other interesting tidbit, is that it appears that all crossfires have the same seats as the SLK32--at least the same bolster design and integrated head rest.

I just did the SLK (99)/base (05) seat swap. Nice manual black leather with red perferated inserts and red back plastic pieces. The stitching is also red. Would love to show pics, but I can't get them to load onto this site. They have seat heaters built into them, but I think they are shot. They also have different harnesses. I just swapped the seat belt latchs and harnesses to keep it all chrysler factory. Also even though the seats look like they are the same shape, they are actually a little different on the back rest (sharper/higher corners), hence I you could not swap just the covers. I looks great and breaks up the mostly black interior on the base model.

Once it is possible, I would love to see some pics. Also, if you do not mind me asking, what were you able to pick up a set of used seats out of the SLK for?

Website still won't let me download pics. I bought these off ebay seller LKQonline. The condition was better than discribed (Probably to eliminate an expensive return). Paid $475 shipped. Here is the link for the seat auction 99 Mercedes SLK Black and Red Leather Seat Set OEM LKQ:eBay Motors (item 390132425456 end time Dec-23-09 18:09:32 PST)

Nice Seats at a good price. The bidding History did make me laugh, though!

I guess the forum is functional again as far as pictures go. Well, here are the seats installed. I scored a seat heater module and pigtail from a salvage x-fire locally for like 20 bucks! Ran wires and it works like a champ!
