Default Auto Spoiler Switch gives me blinking light...

So I'm placing my groceries into the trunk and close it. I start my XF and reverse out of the parking space. I move forward and...... I look out my rear view and the spoiler has deployed by itself and the switch is blinking red. I press the button in the hopes that the spoiler will go down. It does not. I park the car in my garage and shut off the engine. The spoiler remains up. I start the car again, hit the button, and the spoiler comes down......Hmmmmmm. What's going on??? I did a search, but came up with a whole lot of nothing...

Start with something simple...is your battery in good shape?? Low voltage (that occurs while cranking with a weak battery) can make a lot of weird things happen with electronic controllers.

Mine did that too. The BAS/ESP light also came on. I did the reset listed in our owners manual and it stopped. KOW that was two years ago and I had spun the tires on a wet/icy road coming out of the office parking lot. Try the reset, its listed as reset BAS/ESP. Very simple to do, may take a bit for it to actually reset. I did it when I came back from lunch and it didn't reset right away, by the time I left for home it was fine. I had already made an appointment with the dealer to look at it which I cancelled. I also agree with CRM, that is another cause.
Hope it works for you.

Have it checked, if the light for the spoiler is on it means it needs service. I had a problem with my spoiler except it wouldn't go up so they replaced the motor.

But was your spoiler working even with the light blinking?

Mine did the same thing, but I also had a CEL. Turned out to be a bad wheel speed sensor.

Yes spoiler was up just like his. He doesn't mention the BAS/ESP light. Mine lit at the same time the spoiler light flashed, spoiler went up and stayed up. had to turn off car, restart to put it down, then it would go right back up. When it did this spoiler did not work in the normal manner. I was sitting in the line at the bank drive in with my spoiler up, felt like an idiot.

I had this issue a couple of weeks back (along with some others) and it was tied into my battery on its way out, once the new battery was in everything went back to normal.

Not saying that's what this is but just throwing in an option as to what it could be.

Cheers

I periodically think of that story you told me and have to laugh a bit.

I'll go with replacing the battery first. People seem to like Interstate batteries. Is this a good replacement? If so, where can I find one? Once I replace the battery, is there anything that needs to be reset?

My 04 was doing the same thing till I replaced the battery. Never did it again. I did not have to reset anything when I changed mine. Some cars need the ESP light reset, how to is in the manual. Pretty much just start the car and turn the wheels lock to lock in both directions without moving.

I actually have the same problem here as monty. Have had it for many months now since I haven't been able to get it in for service. I'm going to check the stuff you guys listed on here and hopefully it'll fix it.

I took it in to the dealer a few months ago and they "fixed" it. Said there was a short in my switch wiring (in the switch console above the shifter) that was causing it. They replaced this switch cluster, and it worked for about maybe 5 seconds, and I went back into the dealer. They told me that they would have to call Chrysler (this is a Chrysler dealership, mind you) and talk to them about the problem, and that they would call me back. Well, they never called me back. So I've been stuck with a broken spoiler for about, I want to say, 9 months?

I really hope your suggestions work with this new switch cluster. Wish me luck.

Is your spoiler positioned up or down?

Still good advice. Thanks, Phil.

I didn't expect to endure the alarm while swapping the battery. I didn't know it had an alarm. The FOB wouldn't shut the alarm off while the battery remained disconnected. I replaced the battery; turned on the ignition. Alarm silenced. Then turned wheels to the left--wheels to the right--wheels straight and drove off. The toggle switched blinked and spoiler lifted once to spite me. It's stayed down since.

Fortunately, there's a Crossfire Security Alarm thread. That was annoying.

How much did it cost to replace it?

I pulled my fuse for my wing, it now blinks over 65mph until I shut the car off. Trying to solve this myself... Check your fuse?

Wings that deploy at odd times (particularly during starting the engine) point to a weak battery or horrible corrosion on the battery terminals/cables.
