Powertrain has me scratching my head...Hmmm...
So last week, I had the weepy transmission gasket replaced along with connectors / plug adapters. They also replaced the fluid with one quart of ATF transmission fluid. I brought in a copy of the TSB and the car has the 7/70 Powertrain warranty. I assumed the entire job would be covered by the warranty, but was charged $110 for parts and labor. When I questioned the bill, the service clerk stated that the part itself is under $100, and therefore I must pay. I was happy that the work was done and paid the bill, yet I continue to wonder if this job should have been free. I guess I am at their mercy, seeing that I don't have a copy of what specific items are covered with the Powertrain. Could someone please provide this info. I did a search and came up empty. Oh, one more thing.....They replaced the fluid, yet failed to replace the cap with another locking tab cap. Should this have been done also, or did I need to request the change?
Thanks to all,
Monty

It was covered. BUT, Chrysler, in its confusion a couple of months ago, started charging for TSB related repairs. If it is the original, factory warranty, (not extended service contract) there should be no charge. If it is extended service, I have a $100 deductible.
I am the second owner of the car. Is that what you mean by 'extended'? I paid the $150 fee to have the Powertrain transferred to me. Should I return to the dealership and dispute this?

No. Being ONLY the second owner and having paid the fee, you are warrantied just the same as the 1st owner. For $110, I would be on the phone to Chrysler asking why you had to pay. That TSB thing was a "surcharge" and was limited to $65 as I recall.
Please call and ask-I'd really like to know, as would everyone else.

I am with you, no factory warranty, but did pay to have powertrain warranty transferred. Do we get TSBs related to the powertrain covered by this or do we still have to pay since the factory warranty is gone???
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.

Burns,
Woody did a post on this a while ago.

the part costs under $10.
That should be covered under the warranty if it falls out of the TSB effected vehicles...provided that the warranty is with chrysler correct?

Steve

So am I on the hook for the $65.50 surcharge, or is it the original $12.00.....or best yet, was I expected to pay nothing? I'd like to have all of my facts straight before making the phone call.
Thanks everyone!

TO: Dealer Principal, Service Mgr., Parts Mgr., and Warranty Claims Administrator. Please ensure that all affected dealership and sales personnel are aware of this new program.
Auburn Hills, Mich., Mar 31, 2009 - In an effort to offset rising warranty costs Chrysler will soon be implementing a surcharge for any and all repair work performed that is addressed by Technical Service Bulletins (TSB's). Effective June 1st, 2009, the surcharge will vary depending on the scope of the work involved, but will not exceed $65.50 per incident, regardless of the number of visits required to perform the necessary repairs. This program applies to U.S. markets only.
In the past, all work performed for TSB repairs was covered at no charge if the vehicle was still under the factory warranty. With the new program, parts and labor for the repair itself will still be covered outside of the surcharge.
The surcharge is necessary to cover rising warranty and overhead costs for the company and its dealers and is expected to raise nearly $36 million during the first year. Claims for work referenced by Service Bulletins have risen more than 16% during the past 18 months, and a high percentage of the claims are for preventive work - work that should not have been done unless the vehicle exhibited the exact issue as described in the bulletin.
Under the new program, dealer warranty claims that are suspected to be for "preventive" work will be aggressively reviewed, and compensation will be reduced or denied.
- Vehicles affected: All Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles built on or after September 1st, 2005. Excludes Sprinter vans and Dodge Ram chassis cab 3500 and 4500.
- Minimum surcharge: $12.00 - Maximum surcharge: $65.50
- Timing: Effective June 1st, 2009
- Labor Operation number: WB-09-064-51S
[*SRT, 4WD and AWD vehicle minimum surcharge is set at $21.00]
Dealers who have not received the complete 12-page document covering this new program please Email: dhb14@chrysler.com and include your dealer number in the correspondence. Please reference document WB-09-64-51S.

I highlighted the pertinent passages. This should give you enough ammunition to get your money back.
Yours, with an ACTUAL LEAK is NOT preventative. It is a repair.
Make sure you have your VIN number on hand-it makes the call go easier.
Your 7/70 should cover this no questions asked. Especially with your build date long before the "Affected Vehicles" date.
Let us know!!!!

quick question. doesn't the "affected date" mean that cars impacted by this, and covered by the TSB, mean that the car would have to be built after the 9/05 affected date. And everything else prior to would not be impacted, or covered by the TSB?
