Strange Noise...Help! :-)
Hi all...this is pretty vague I know but does anyone have any suggestions on this:
What is the noise:
It's not significantly loud, nor does it sound like a loose or worn transmission mount. Has anyone experience anything similar?
What is the noise:
- Car idles at normal revs fine
- Put transmission in neutral and depress brake peddle at normal idle no problems no noise.
- Put transmission in drive depressing brake pedal (i.e. car is stationary) at normal idle speed = a low rumbling noise.

In gear under load puts pressure on the engine, trans, and exhaust. I would check out the clearance on or around the exhaust and hangers first. It might be just close enough under load to be rubbing on something.
mmm, thanks for that I'll check that out but from inside the car if feels a more "internal" sound, like within the transmission.
If anyone has had a Lexus SC400 you'd know that the nitrogen canister for the ABS looses pressure over time. The sound of the compressor running to keep the pressure up in the canister is not unlike this sound.
Keep the suggestions coming please
