Can be "up to" 7000 miles
The service monitor will let you know based on your driving habits and time when the oil should be changed.
Only use high quality synthetic of the proper weight or the system does not calculate correctly.
(it will be much closer to 7000 miles - make sure the system is reset when the oil is changed, the procedure is listed on this site)

just bought mine a few weeks ago..........no prior service sticker or way to tell, so Im hitting the mercedes dealership this weekend. $104.00 plus tax to service mine, but its well worth it in my opinion, as it will keep my baby running right!

I usually go somewhere in the middle, about 4 to 5K miles. If you have ever done an oil change on a car it isn't that hard to do the Crossfire.

I did my first oil change about a week ago. It took a couple of hours due to the learning curve. I took my time to make sure I did everything right. The cartridge filter was something new, all the o-rings and making sure the filter is shoved up high enough. Overall, not bad. I know the next time it will be faster.

Be sure to use a fleece/synthetic filter and Mobil 1 0W-40.

You will learn to NEVER listen to the stealership.......they know absolutely nothing about this car, and it's care. Use the FSS as it was designed...it will let you know when service is due. I usually get 9K to 10K between changes, but I do very little stop/go daily driving....long trips at highway speed extends the interval.

What Dan said - They always over or under fill mine, charge an outrageous amount of money.I think the last one was 160$ and I had to take it back both times becuase of the oil levels.
The last two I've done myself and both times took me about 1/2 hour and that is draining it from the pan. DIY and get it right and save money at the same time. I change mine once a year in the spring. I drive about 3500 miles a year.

Agree on using the FSS indicator, but if you garage it for the winter (which I do), I strongly recommend fresh oil and filter before storing it. I'm partial to Mobil1 0W-40 or 0W-30. The former is used on the two vehicles still under warranty to maintain warranty coverage.

The FSS should factor in number of days since last change.

But you are taking the safe route for sure- always a good policy.

Stick with the owners manual, it was written for our cars. Remember that all Dodge/Chrysler dealerships are not necessarily Crossfire capable. The dealership must have a Crossfire trained tech. to either sell or work on our cars. If they don't (heck, even if they do!) the odds are they will know not a darn thing about our cars anyways.

My friend has an E 320 (same engine as ours) and I have talked to people with the SLK 320, and they all said that when the FSS is reset after an oil change, it goes to 10,000 miles instead of 7,000. Sometimes my friend gets close to 15,000 miles on a single oil change. My dad's Mercedes also is reset to 10,000 miles after the oil change (diesel engine though).

So my question is, why does the Crossfire only reset to 7,000 miles even though they have the same engine? Was this another way for Mercedes to market to people that even though it has Mercedes parts, it is not as good as a real Mercedes?

There is probably more truth to that than you realize. I would answer yes to your question.

My indicator usually comes on about 30 days prior to a year coming up.

Is there a way to check and see how long you have left (in miles)?

Mine was changed on July 6 just before I picked it up. That was 2329 miles ago, considerable slow-speed driving around town, etc. I did not realize the computer would take into account just how you are driving - missed that somewhere in the manual... if it is mentioned.

Searching for the reset procedure, just of the heck of it.

EDIT: FOUND IT!

When you get in the car, with the odometer showing, press the left button twice (rapidly). It will tell you how many miles to the next service. Note that this mileage can actually increase based on the type of driving you do.

Mark, you will find it easier still if you use one of the Vacuum Systems, everything accessible from above. These Vacuum Systems only cost $40-$50 bucks and about 30-40 minutes of your time, and then, you can be confident it is done RIGHT. When you put it into a shop, unless you watch them closely, you never know if it has been done properly with the right oil Etc.

Since I only drive mine 4K a yr...I change it just before the fall Dragon run in late Sept or Oct...she gets raced a bit now then...so, she needs a drink more often...it is a very easy oil change...jack up drivers side, I got rid of the MB pan...exposing the drain...be careful with the washer on the drain plug, make sure filter is seated all the way, take her off the jack...put in 8 qts, check it after letting her warm up, may need to add up to 1/2 qt more...30 minutes tops...

I actually went 14 months on the past oil change and it was still showing mileage. Like I said previously, it all depends on your type of driving. Mine is 98% long distance, higher speed driving and I get nearly 10K on the FSS. I've never had it switch to days.
