Default Hood Lift Support Question

Hi all,

Searched the forum, but didn't find a definitive answer, so hoping y'all can help me figure this one out.

My lift support under the hood gave out. It no workee at all.

I did find a link to something called a "support rod" on parts.com for $117.30 (yikes). Is this the same part? I've heard it called Gas Prop (in the service manual), a lift support and now, maybe, a support rod....confusing....

Can someone confirm this is the right part? And if anyone has any advice or sources for a decent replacement, that would be great!

Also, I think I heard that the Crossfire is based on the Mercedes SLK, correct? Would a lift support for that model be compatible? Or do I have my facts/models wrong?

Thanks for any help you guys can send my way!

The lift support is the same on the SLK32. I showed Buggin how to go vertical with his hood on his SLK32. He did not know it would do that.

Hood and trunk props are cover for up to 7 years if you have the Maximum Care extended warranty. Most other body things like door hinges, window motors and tracks and windshield wiper mechanisms are covered. But if you have the Added Care Plus extended warranty no body components are covered.

A do it yourself center will charge only ~$2 for a 2X4!

Just kidding. $120 is an awful lot.

LOL. I have found a semi-permanent solution:

And yes, this is how I will present the car at the car show tomorrow. Cant wait to hear the comments. LOL.

If I had some of that neffy CF wrap left, I'd wrap and sell it as a real carborn fiber hood prop.

That button doesent work either. The rod is leaking at the lower end, so to prevent it oiling all over the car I took it out.

Are your sure?

Did you check under slk or Crossfire?

Under Crossfire it gives me $117.30

Thanks so much!

I ordered and then saw that "Crossfirekat" is selling here old one for $35 so I canceled the original order.

But if she fails, I'll def. get it. It comes out to like $83 shipped via ups ground

I think the "Full Up" position is a mechanical "click" type stop-not spring/hydraulic. It should at least hold it there. It's just when you press the button to release it you have to be careful! Think giant mousetrap!

But if you removed it, this is meaningless. Sorry!

Yeah, that button barly ever worked for some reason, so I dont think it will work tomorrow.

Ill just use the Swiffer stick to keep it up. Ghetto as hell, but what ever. Maybe I'll put a note on it saying "not a permanent solution".

I orderd the part Autohaus AZ since I dont think I'll ever here from that crossfirekat.
