Default The radio…

…sucks. Or is it just me? It fails to pull in the strongest AM station in my area, plus others fade in/out, mucg static. Rumors of a "recall" or exchange. Can anyone update me on this? Other than that, I love the car; when I want music, I power down the windows and accelerate.

The rumors are that there might be some kind of replacement. Cars shipping now have a different radio, but as far as I know the only difference is with the display, which could not be read in sunlight. As for the other problems with the radio, I am not impressed with the AM/FM sound quality, but rarely listen the radio anyway, so it hasn't bothered me that much. Sound quality with CDs is decent, I would have probably been more impressed if I hadn't heard the sound systems in my parents Jaguar and Lexus, which are probably the best out there.

I'll probably go with an aftermarket update, assuming a proper fit can be had. Also, I'm hooked on my XM radio in my other vehicles, so I'll probably go that route. Wonder if that "smallish rear window antenna is a factor? Thanx for the response.

After reading some of the posts regarding the radio, I was a little embarressed refering to that "wonderful radio" in one of my previous messages. Maybe I have one of the later radios (my car was the newest delivered to my dealership and has a 9900+ serial number) as I never have a problem reading the display and the radio/CD sound quality is simply superb and I do not live in a metropolitan area.

Does your display have a dark background with green lettering, or a light background with dark lettering? If it is the light background with dark lettering it is the updated radio.

My serial # is 1704. So some place between you and I there was an update. I'm going to research that. I f anyone has any supporting info, let's hear it. I don't expect the dealer to be much help.

ADF3786, What's your serial number. I'd like to narrow this down to the point where we know which numbers received the new radio. I have the dark background unit.

Mine does have the light background with the dark lettering, so I must have the upgrade. I just tried the AM though and it's really bad - but it's bad in my other car too. Never listen to AM anyway.

Hopefully the radio service bulletin will be out in the next couple weeks!I was told there would be one on the display problem and replacing the radio would be the fix.I will post the TSB # as soon as it comes out!

I have been thinking of not getting the radio upgraded by DC. I think I
am going to go out and look for a MP3 playing disk changer. Changing
cd's is a real bummer while driving ( or is it just opening the console is
the big bummer during driving....

I just received my car so I also have the updated radio version with the green background and black lettering. The sound is good for a factory radio but I'm used to a better thing. I have to say my PT-Cruiser had better sound than the Crossfire except the bass is a bit deeper in the Xfire. I will put in my Pioneer >>>>>>>>>>>>&g t;>>>>

The colour brushed aluminium silver will fit just fine I think. The only question I have is the amplifier. Chrysler says 240watt but is it external? Or is it the radio who gives 240watt (what I can't believe) I hope some one can tell me this :?: :?:

The amplifier is external. Let me know how your install goes, and if you can use the external amplifier, or if you have to buy a new one.

I went to my dealer Thursday - raised a "little hell" - mentioned the Florida lemon law and now have a new visible display radio, courtesy of DC, on the way - ETA - Monday - Tuesday. This was not easy - I had the Service Manager on the phone with DC for at least 30 mins.

I have spent 80k cash with this dealer in the past several years - they did want me to be happy.

here's the update, in my album you can see the pic's. I used the original amplifier, for now, it was so easy only 5 min work. I just had to plug in the DIN (Deutsche Industrie Norm) plugs and all worked fine. The sound quality is MUCH better even the subs are very good. This makes me conclude that the radio is 'the weakest link" but to be fair the Pioneer DEH-P8400MP is not a basic radio. Have to taste some more, to bad I can't let you all hear it :P

Grtz,
Nean

Electrical:
Nothing needed only the (standard DIN plugs) ok I made a mistake in my previous post it is not a DIN but ISO connector ops: But to make up I show you a picture of it

See the black (double) square connector on the right side, you need this connection on the radio, so no cutting needed, just plug it in.

Mounting:
This is called a DIN size radio  , an I needed nothing either. My guess is that all aftermarket radio's are in this DIN size....

Grtz,
Nean
