Default Hidden Key

Does anyone know where one "could" put a hidden valet key on the crossfire? I looked all under my car last night and could not find anything obvious. Every seam and body panel is so tight and there isn't any flex or gap that I can find. I finally just tried to find a good piece of metal to use a magnetic key-holder on and again couldn't find a spot that it wouldn't fall off. Anyone willing to give me some hints? PM me if your wary of posting your secret spot on this thread.

FYI, valet key = $35 at local lock smith
great for opening doors and not breaking glass!

Take duct tape and put it behind the fog light access door, not on the actual door itself but right off to the side on something that is bolted to the rest of the car. Not where I personally have mine but its' a great place that most people wouldn't think to look... until now. LOL

I used to put a hidden key on all my cars in very hard to find spots. The last time I locked myself out I had forgotten where I had put the key, so I started to think of all the places it could be, no luck.
It went to the wreckers with a well hidden key. So I do not bother anymore.
My wife had to come to the golf course with a spare. She was not too pleased, so I reminded her of the times she forgot to put her old Mustang in park and when it would not start she'd called a truck to jump the battery, not once but three times. First words from the truck guy "Is it in park?", OOPS, second words "$25 please".

You should never lock yourself out anyway.... it is nearly impossible. The doors will not lock if the key is in the ignition. If the car is off and the key is in the ignition, there is an annoying alarm when the door is open.

Not to mention the lock button is inside the car in the center console. It is simply easier to just use the remote to lock it and I can't imagine anyone would lock themselves out of the car.

It is not like the older cars where you get out and push the lock lever down or the power lock button on the door. If you get out of the car and try to use the lock button, you have to get back in the car and push the center console button. In 4 years I never used that button... I hardly knew it was there!

There is a lock button on the center console??!??!!!!!! i haven't noticed..... is it the center round button?

Your right, it seems so far that it is VERY hard to lock yourself out. Such a good thing to hear. However with the anti-theft features of the car i would hate to break a window or tweak a door panel trying to get in to the car when my handy dandy $35 valet key would do the trick. Besides why not give yourself a backup to get in to the car? you all know Murphy and how much of a B*%$# she can be! In my career as a Network Architect, designing high availability systems the cardinal rule is to always design something with a backup option. Maybe you are familiar with the term used in data-centers, N+1. Basically what it means is you have something that can handle the load or need of the system but in the event of a failure you should always have something that is able to take that load in a moment's notice. In my mind the attitude of "eh forget it, it wont happen" is ignorant and asking for problems. I'll unlock my car and watch you wait for the lock smith who is going to slim jim your car door in to a warped piece of junk and then break your window to get in. Laughing the entire time. I may be new to the crossfires but I am not new to being smart about things and making sure I have an out.

Dang, why so much resistance to a hidden key? SHEEEEESH PEOPLE!

Lets get some more input on locations!

I may be ignorant and asking for problems but I would not stand back and laugh at you trying to get into your locked car. I would offer you a lift to your home to pick up your spare key, on this forum we are like that.
On some forums they would tell you were to shove your key and sideways too, but as I said, we are not like that here.

Now that there is funny! I don't care who you are.

Get one of those magnetic key holders and hide it in the wheel well. Oh wait, the wells aren't metal anymore.

Honestly, I don't have a need to hide a key anymore.

O.K. Sure, you betcha. this forum isnt "like" that. Every forum is "like" that. Its the nature of text and yet again this thread is sidetracked like a lot of other's on this forum.

Can we get back to the subject at hand? Where do people store their hidden keys?

No kidding i had to smile a bit. A lot of things on the crossfire are not metal. its amazing how many farings and things they used underneath to keep the airflow as smooth as they could. Having the Exhaust directly in the middle is also very clean it seems. I love the design but finding a place to stick a magnet! whoa momma!

Well some of us kid around a bit, no harm done and honestly we aren't like that..... No really we aren't.
My first spot would be on the bottom inside ledge of the muffler tips, no magnet just tape of some form.
Another would be behind a license plate, again held on with tape. To get at it you would bend the plate, of course anyone stealing your plates would be able to drive the car away and unscrew them at leisure.
The best idea is last, behind the front plate holder is a hollow space that can be got at as it is longer than the bumper cover in that area. Tape again and who except anyone who reads this would know.
Just about the only way to lock yourself out is to lose the key, I have not done that, yet.

OK, That made me laugh! There is some kind of Un-Just reward with that. Like Sheriff Naughtingham actually getting maid Marrion. LOL

Now this is what I'm talking about!!!!!!!!! If you only knew how often I misplace things.....I'm going to go out to the garage and take a look at my girl real close there and see but we may have hit pay dirt. Inside of the fog light access door is also very cool. Both have the advantage of being inside the body. Ill let you know what I decide.

Silver duct tape your vallet key inside one of your center hub caps. Everybody hides em in the fog light access panel.
I don't, I just keep a couple hundred stashed away in there for emergency's....Oooops....

Take a screw out of your rear license plate and put the key behind the plate. Replace the screw into the plate. If they steal your rear plate they also have the key. It has worked for me, but never had a plate stolen.

I found a very nice place deep inside the fog light door to hang the key from using a twist tie, doubled over and twisted many times that will not come loose or rattle. Makes me smile thinking about it hanging in there swinging back and forth as i drive. There are so many places inside of that access door to hide a key. depends on how creative you want to be and how paranoid you are.

I looked at the space behind the front license plate bracket. My only concern was it rattling and falling out while i am driving. All in all though a very good place to think of in the first place!

My hidden key is hiding in my house. If I am ever dumb enough to lock myself out I will just call up my wife and bring me the new key

One of the silver buttons in the center console is a lock/unlock button. I never use it so I will never lock myself out. The only time I ever push it is to unlock the door while I am driving so someone can get in on the passenger side.

Why would anyone want to 'hide' a two hundred dollar key somewhere subject to loss or moisture? Even the car is smarter than that.

I agree with you on that! That is why I don't have a hidden key!

Unless you can somehow get a cheap key made up without the Fob.. something that will just unlock the doors.

The key in question was just made locally, and it will just open the doors.

LOL - I wonder how many alabaster Crossfires will be missing their fog light access panels now...
