Hi everyone, I feel in love when the Crossfire was a concept, and it looks alot better now. So anyways, I'm just looking to see what everyone has to say about the car to help sway my decision either way. I've read loads of reviews, and the Car & Driver review stuck out the most.. kind of biased.

Anyways, I'm in love with this car but tettering on a Nissan 350z, Infiniti G35, Pontiac GTO, and Chrysler Crossfire. The Crossfire has the looks and handling.. but not so much power. Is there anyways I can up the power with out voiding the factory warranty?

Thanks,

-Nick

Drive the car.... If you still think it needs more power, buy a Viper.

Looking at your screen name "AccidentInclined"....... If I were you I would buy a RX8. It only has 198 hp. Maybe you can save yourself some serious injury.

I think the power is great for a V6 engine. If your looking for drag races and speeding tickets buy the other cars. There all a dime a dozen!Just my opinion

Default dilemma

I can understand the G35 or 350 Z, they are great performance cars all around and a great value.

But the GTO? True, gobs of power and the Vette engine...that's the beginning and end of its allure to me. Looks so bland as to be almost invisible, and does not particularly handle well.

What do you want in a car? The 350Z is a sports car, the G35 a slightly less edgy version of the same car, the Crossfire is not so much a sports car as a sports coupe, and the GTO is a stop light drag racer. They're all quite different and in my opinion don't compare well.

I looked at the Nissan Z and the G35 before I saw the Crossfire. It was love at first sight.

I have no complaints about the HP and NO regrets on my choice.

Go for it!

The 350z and G35 are great cars, and they do have the edge on straight-line acceleration. But all that extra power may get you at best an extra 1/2 second in a full-throttle 0-60 drag race.... For everyday driving and the occasional blast up your favorite twisty road, the Crossfire is the ideal balance of power, crisp handling, and looks. My car feels solid and substantial, and it's one of the best-handling cars I've driven.

For the looks, though, you can't get more bang for the buck in the Crossfire. Out here in California, 350z's and G35's are a dime a dozen, but there are still relatively few Crossfires on the road. Most people have never seen a Crossfire in person, so it still draws a crowd!

If you want to jump on the bandwagon, get the 350Z or the G35. If you want a big-horsepower sleeper that looks like a Grand Prix, get the GTO. If you want to stand out from the crowd, with excellent performance to match, I highly recommend the Crossfire!

Next year, Chrysler will produce a supercharged version that is said to make 330 hp, based on the Mercedes AMG engine. No telling yet what the price will be...

hey accident... bag 'em all and go for the crossfire. i've had everyone from g35s to boxsters, and even a jag xk8 stop me and ask about the car. there nothing better on the road right now. although i personally wish the attention would ease up a bit, it doesn't seem as though it will be anytime soon enough.

like you, i saw this vehicle when it was just an idea in someone's mind. i remember the day vividly when i told my dealer (i've been a loyal chrysler owner for 20+ yrs) that if that car ever became a reality, i want mine in white. they remembered, and when the alabaster autostick arrived at their dealership, it had my name written all over it...when the sebring lxi went in for an oil change, they simply told me 'your new car is here...' and i signed the paperwork in less than an hour. and other than one unfortunate incident, i've been having a great time with the car! definitely worth the wait. go for it!

Well the name is just a nickname I happened to pick up when i wrecked my first car  .

And hate to correct, but the RX8 6 speed has 238 HP, the cars that I'm looking at are going to be manual.

Another thing that I really like about the crossfire is it's braking, it's up to par with the Ferrari 575M Maranello.

I'll schedule up a test drive for the Crossfire witht the dealer after the holidays.

Default guilt by association...

Went out at lunchtime today to pick up some carryout for the family. A rare Dec. 23 63 degree day in Maryland, so the Crossfire was the ride of choice, and a joy to drive with the windows down!

Looking for a parking space in the strip plaza's crowded lot, lots of cars weaving in and out going in all directions.

A young guy in a new 350Z was inching towards me. As I passed him, trying to turn left behind him down a row to look for a slot, he sat and waited for me, holding up traffic behind him. As I came up along side him (going the OTHER way, mind you) he revved his engine (turns out he had two of the coffee can after-market mufflers), and did a tire burnout right there in the parking lot...traffice and pedestrians and all.

Lots of such silliness on the 350Z boards as well.

Get a Crossfire and come play with the adults.

Welcome to the forum! I say go for the Crossfire, but obviously I'm a little biased. As for the RX8, they originally said it had 250 hp, but it obviously didn't, and they misstated the hp, so they re-rated it at 238. That is also fairly high, considering I have seen dynos of manual RX8s that have gotten around 180 to the rear wheels! ops: Obviously the 238 that Mazda states is at the crank, and not at the wheels, but over 30% drivetrain loss? Please. The Renesis rotary is an interesting engine, and a good performer for its 1.3 liters, but Mazda has made a big mistake. They even resorted to buying back used RX8s for full price to avoid lawsuits...

I agree 238BHP is very suspect. In every single comparison test [ never mind stop watchs or HP figures ]. The crossfire out performs the RX8 by a large margin, also the TT by slightly less. I actually suspect the Crossfires 215HP is conservative, it certainly feels like more.
Look at this forum, I think with very few exceptions, we were all a bit worried about the 215HP figure and 0-60 times before we bought the car. Once you actually drive it, all those worries are gone. I think the supercharged version needs to be there but I wouldn't buy it. The Crossfires got all the power you need and want for 99% of the time.
I've said it before, I think the Crossfire is THE perfect Sports Coupe ever.

Yes in Dee Dee! All of the above comments are right on!....The competition just don't have a chance. The Crossfire is the car for you if you are looking for the best of everything in a sports car. When the love bug bites you, you will sell your first born and give your right arm to own one. I did and I love it!

The 215 hp the Crossfire has seems like a lot more when it comes to pep and zip. I think the 330 hp model is going to be a bit too much but at least DC listened when people were complaining about a lack of HP

The Crossfire does have power and nice pick up. I still don't understand the need for more horses??? Why, so you can do 0-60 1 second faster--come on. But, hey don't get me wrong it would be nice to have 330HP, but for the insurance cost that would keep me in a 215 no problem. Now, if you are going to the track it's another question all together. But for 99.99% of the world 215 gets you from point a to b in just about the same time.

The 350Z owners (coffee can mufflers) crack me up. But they definately show their age...

Kush, I was waiting for a Lotus comment in this thread...happy holidays!

The Crossfire has plenty HP to kick around with its contemporaries such as the RX8, TT, and 350z. Advantage: lighter in weight and excellent weight distribution. I don't know why all of a sudden car makers are making high HP the main selling point for their vehicles. I guess they are trying to market to those trying to compensate their lack of size in certain body parts....who knows... .I bought my Crossfire based on looks and handling knowing the 215 HP felt right for such a tourer. Today I enjoy the heck out this fine vehicle with absolutely no regrets.

Don't buy the Crossfire. In fact, I wish that they would stop making them, and destroy all existing stock. Why? Because I'm a selfish bastard and want to keep the fun and attention to myself. I have NEVER driven a vehicle that has garnered so much positive attention. I l ive in an area rife with Ferrari, M-B, BMW and their ilk. Yet, the X-Fire gets the bulk of the attention. Yesterday a BMW M3 became a real nuisence as he ran up beside me, dropped back, etc. (This was o n 280 for you Bay Area owners).

Consider this AI: I too looked at the other cars you mentioned (Only very briefly at the style-challenged GTO). The G35 and 350Z are great carscand I've seen dozens of them on the highway. After 3 weeks I've yet to see another X-Fire. Also, cars like the X-Fire have a somewhat timeless element in their design. Whereas the the others are only new until the next model year.
