I spent the extra money and got it from Chrysler. The original filter was a Mercedes part. The one I got from Chrysler was the same Mercedes part except it was a bit thicker compared to the factory filter. It still squeezed in there. So to anyone looking to replace the filter and think the new one won't fit..... it will!
thanks for the info.. i am confused though i have tried the merc part in my XF but it does not fit. my XF has a recess in the air box itself and the merc and aftermarket parts did not fit at all, thats why i went with CAI.
have not seen a fuel consumption improvement and feels like a small increase in performance. the noise from the engine bay has most definitly increased. i would like to go back to stock for this reason however, here in South Africa one new CAI filter costs R 85 (about 10 dollars) the stock filter from agents R 750 each (about 94 dollars).
as mentioned in a previous post there are less that 200 XF and less that 25 SRT in the whole country, however there are hundreds of merc slk and slk compressors available here. so if it works on my XF im in.
we have a company here that does a "stage 1 conversion" on the XF for around 1120 dollars. they do CAI, Ehaust with removing both cats and replacing it with a "cat back" system (better flowing cat) as well as engin management re-map. My XF went from 149kw to 198kw on the wheels in dyna testing. thats about all we can do here as there are no other performance tuning centres who offer work on XF. we cant even get an A or B service for under 1000 dollars.
apart from that i love the car more than my wifes c55amg and my old 745i beemer.
thanks to all the guys and gals who have added the comments on this site it is truly brilliant, its almost like someone sits on this site 24/7 to offer advise... you dudes rock
