Air Conditioning Problem
My AC started blowing hot air. I could not get it to blow below max heat with the AC on or off, even with the temp dials set to max cool. After shutting down and letting the car sit overnight the temp dials worked again, but the AC will still not blow cold air. Checked all of the fuses and they are all good. Any help would be appreciated, Thanx
What you will need to do is dependent on wether you can work on the car yourself, or if you would rather pay someone to do the work for you.
If you don't want to work on the car yourself, take it to a good shop, and have them fix it.
If you can do the work yourself, go to an auto parts store, and spend a couple dollars on a can of the R112 refill, that comes with a pressure gauge on the can, and has leak detector dye in it.
Trace down the a/c lines, and hook up the refill canister to the proper line, and follow the instructions. If the lines had no pressure according to the gauge, you might have a damaged line, or a leaking valve.
If the lines did have pressure, then you might have a bad pressure sensor on the system.
If you can find the sensor ( I couldn't, but its 15 degrees in my garage right now), you can disconnect it, put a jumper wire in the connector, and test to see if you then have a/c.
After that, its then the a/c unit that is bad.

First the freon is R134.
To chech it out, start the car on idle, check the compressor and see if the clutch is turning when the A.C is on,
Autozone or wallmart have tire pressure gauge looking thinggies that allow you to test the refrigerant pressure and indicate what you have going for you.
Never add freon to the car without checking the pressure first.
WHEN ADDING FREON BE SURE THAT THE CAN IS TOP UP OR ELSE YOU CAN REALLY BLOW THE COMPRESSOR PUMPING LIQUID.........REALLY
more questions?? ask me, ENJOY Woody

Thank you for the advise. So far this falls into a do it myself project. My garage is also at 15f right now, so it will have to wait for a day at least above freezing, which could be awhile. What is the difference between R112 and R134? Can I get partial pressure or is it all or nothing. If you can get some pressure how do you bleed it to refill. I will follow up as it seems like you guys know what I can do if it's not a pressure issue, or let you know if a refill does it. Also, I read in the manual that the AC will not blow cold below 40 degrees. If so, how do I test it?
The proper stuff is the R134 as Waldig said.
I pulled the 112 stuff out of thin air, as I couldn't remember what it was off the top of my head.
Don't worry about bleeding the system.
Give our ideas a try to see what you can get.
