Default Heater/defroster problems?

Anyone else?

Get in, crank up the engine, and NO fan, in ANY position, at ANY speed.

Dealer's first response was that it will not come on until engine has warmed up.... the same response as to the low tire light... its all temperature related....
BUT...

what good is a car that the heater/defroster will not function until AFTER engine temp is up to normal operating temperature when you live in the northern half of the US?

While I DO have an excellent dealership (They Love Me!)... and the car is currently in their shop with no less than a Lincoln Town Car for my loaner... I am curious if there are any others with this experience please?

Thanks!

If that is the case, then mine is broken (which I wouldn't doubt).

WHen I turn the fan on, it blows. Regardless of hot, cold, etc,. I tend to start moving a bit before the car is really warm so I get cold air blowing on my hands the first block or two every time I take it out.

Mines broke too... .... I can run the fan as soon as I crank the engine and the outside temp has been 18 degrees and the temp in the garage has been 34 in the morning.

I think your dealer is blowing sunshine up your...........

Some cars do work that way, Lexus for example has a feature that will not allow it to blow out air until it is warm... or else it will blast you with cold air. It will blow out air no matter when if you put it on defrost I believe.

My car is in getting the fan motor replaced (actually that was done a week ago, but they can't get a vibration identified, so it is still there).

The fan motor sounded like it came unbolted from the mounts or something when it went out. I rattled for 2 seconds and bam....stopped. You could hear it trying to spin, but was jammed. It gets really cold in the car at 7* with the windows open so the windshield stays clear.

The tech never looked at it, just took the whole unit out and put another one in. Took a week to get the part......

We had two issues with something "not" working when we got ours in July. Both were electrial connections that had come loose after assembly. The heater and blower has worked cold, hot, and in between. Maybe it's a simple connection.

The heater fan in my Mazda 929 would not operate either until the engine was warm enough to blow warm air, a nice feature as my Volvo gives you a nice blast of cold air on a cold morning if asked to do so. I think my Crossfire's fan might be the same way as the Volvo's, I haven't taken notice (here in Florida) but will and let you know.

Thanks for checking CC....

the 'latest' my dealer wants his TownCar back, and for me to take back the XFire, while he waits for parts! Imagine that!

I said "no"... it's yours til it's fixed...correctly!

He got it to work in the "One notch down from full blast" only....... which apparently is some kind of manual override position. Bull hockey.
Imagine a 200 mile trip with the fan on full the whole time

Sounds like a bad blower resistor.

Cool here in Florida (mid 60's) this morning so thought I would try my heater fan. Yes, no auto mode and it will blow cold air immediately. The "0" selection seems to shut off outside airflow into the cockpit, while the numbered positions just increase fan speed as normal. Wish it had an auto function, if it does, I couldn't find it.

I just got my car back (since before the first of the year) in which they replaced my blower moter among other things. So finally I get my car back and the first day, I get in and the heater fan starts doing random speeds on me.....including not shutting off when the car is shut off. It acts like it is disconnected from the speed switch.

So at this point I am about ready to come unglued, hit a hugh pot hole and now it is fixed. Works fine. I am guessing this is a bad relay or something. Any ideas where to start looking so I don't have to bring it back in?

hey Stranded_2004

I am having the same issue. Dealer tries to fix and it works for about a day. This is gettting old quick. They have replaced controler and one connector. What was the cause of your fan not working?

Thanks

Andy
