Default Engine Swap Ideas

I'm working on removing and parting out the engine and trans from my 04 Limited coupe and would like to hear some ideas on what to put back in it. I can tell you it won't be Mercedes built or without aftermarket support. So lets hear your ideas..

Don't steal my supercharged small block chevy plans!

Hey Chuck, just how much of the electronics do you think will be usable without the XF brain to run things?

Something I've been wondering about.

How about a Dodge 500 Stroker (440) Daytona Big Block Crate Engine with 540 horsepower and 525 ft-lbs of torque, or a 7.2L "440" Stroker SRT-8 HEMI with 628 HP with 596 Ft-lbs. of Torque.

Well for fitment reasons i would think another V6 one thats cheaper and has more aftermarket support.

Ford 3.8 V6 they came built for forced induction. Exapmple Regal grandnationals, Thunderbirds. and many that run sub 10 sec 1/4 and make over 600 hp.

Near stock Turbo regals and thunderbirds give me competition at the track during Shootout events.

A friend of mine has a last gen 7 with an LS1 swap, headers, tune, etc and that car is absolutely insane on a track. Can't wait to get this snow off the ground

Chuck, can I ask why no Mercedes? Is it simply a financial requirement or is there something deeper behind it? (IE the lack of support and high cost of doing the unknown)

I think this would be sweet...............

Ferrari 360 Long Block Engine + Transmission + Harness : eBay Motors (item 220557741826 end time Mar-18-10 13:45:19 PDT)

A little pricey, but the sound would be AWESOME!!!!!!!!

I see some good ideas here, a couple I have been considering. The only electronics I am concerned with keeping is the keyless entry/security system and fuel gauge. Our dash is so simply laid out putting a new tach or speedo should not be a problem.
One of the crazier ideas I have been toying with is a turbo slant six. I've had a couple(not turbo) and its a super strong reliable motor.
Here is a couple examples, I'm pretty sure they are running stock bottom ends.
YouTube - 11 second turbo valiant slant 6
YouTube - Turbo slant 6 - 1/4mile pass

I don't want to deal with the expensive electronic side of it. I'd rather be able to street tune with wideband, egt, and a laptop.

Let me know if you have any question on the electronics side but I think you're gonna need to leave the electronics in there and just run everything in parallel. Cam or crank trigger inputs on the stock ECU will give you RPM, stock sender in new engine will give you ECT, fuel and speed won't matter as those will still be using the ECU and the factory senders/sensors, kill the ESP/BAS/TC by disconnecting the YAW and SA sensors and you should be set. granted this is paraphrased but you get the idea.

Do you think a slant 6 would fit? That's one long engine. I would be in inclined to put a in V-8 if going to the trouble.

briggs and stratton 5 hp motor! with out a benz driveline it turns into another bankrupt mopar car.
no offense but thats the main draw to these cars.
if you want big power go lantanas route. support is there and he can make enough power to rip the car in half

The main problem with a 360 engine is the fact that they don't make much power............and you don't want to know how much mods/maintenance cost for that powertrain.

To a Benz owner maybe.. but an LS powered crossfire would **** on a benz powered one for about the same cost. Mercedes is cool if you want to meet emmisions standards or for the snob appeal or whatever, but there are tons of "briggs and strattons" out there that can easily and more cost effectively make more usable power. Look at the black series and brabus cars.. they shake around turns because the TC is so intrusive, and they can't put the power down.
