Default Tint % suggestions

My A6 goes in for a 35% tint in a couple weeks. While I am curious to see how that looks on a silver car, I'm wondering what some of you have done on your coupes. I saw bmorgans 2% but that is too dark -- I want it to be semi legal. I'm also looking for something that goes well with graphite gray and machine gray. Any input appreciated. (PS - I did do a search and not much came up.) By the way, does $130 sound reasonable for a coupe?

Jerry, Can you tell me where you are having your window tint done, PM or email.
How do you think a 35% tint would look on my black coupe?
please let me know.

Check my gallery... I just uploaded a bunch of photos of my Graphite coup with 35% tint. If it were me I wouldn't go below %20 and %50 isn't even worth doing.

Dirty windows on my baby..... Don't think so. LOL I think this is about the only car that I have not tinted. I would say about 95% of my driving in this car is topless. The 5% of the time is usually i/4 of a mile at a time.

I had 20% on my Cadillac and it was too dark at night, I could only see lights through them. I liked it during the day because you can't really see in, you could barely make out the outline of people... But police don't like that because anybody they pull over has the potential to do something stupid. Just something to keep in mind . My cousin has 35 on his car and it looks good, and is legal here.. That's what I'd go with if I were to tint my car.

20% with a light interior.. very dark in person.

Nothing aftermarket for tint here is legal. You are allowed a minimum of 70% light transmittance, and considering the windows have tint from the factory, any tint becomes illegal.

Police here carry tint meters, and especially on roads like the turnpike will stop you for tint. You have two choices after your ticket, scrape it off, or have the car towed.

Most interesting is it applies to out of state cars as well.

Goldwing,

I have 17% high performance black carbon film on mine and I really like the look. Occasionally I will have to roll 1 window down at night to back out of a really dark area, but it is well worth it. They also make a high performance metalic based film that is AWESOME on grey/silver cars. Do not think mirror tint (eww), think black tint with a graphite metalic finish, most people would not know it was not normal tint, cars guys would notice and realize it is high quality stuff. The other benefit, it NEVER fades. Just my 0.02

How much have you guys been getting quotes for? They wanted 300 for 3M tints, I feel this is way over priced?

The shop near me wanted $150 for all windows (except windshield) for any 3M tint (>5% tint).

I will probably go over to them in the next couple weeks to get some 35% tint put on all the way around (except windshield).

Come on now Z, you have been trying to tint that thing since you did the do it yourself write up. There is no cheaper mod on black car that looks better than some quality tints. Now go do it!

True that.

I would go do it during the week except that I am working entirely too much for work and don't get off before the shop I want to take it to closes. Looks like I will have to make an appointment for Saturday. I was also putting the tint off for a bit as I was trying to build up my wheel budget. $150 would put me that much closer to new wheels. Then again so would have the money I spent on DRs and the money I spent on some updated badges from Glenn. Damn, thinking about it now I should have my wheels AND tint with all the SRT money I've spent recently. Damn.

I am really hoping to get my wheels on by Carlisle, but I just don't know if I can order them and have them made fast enough.

Damn, do not even try to poor mouth when you say something like having wheels made. Now if you said ordered, I may feel a little sympathy, but anyone who can afford to have wheels made should also have tint and DRs LOL

Sorry for the threadjack Goldwing, but at least I did offer a little advise in an earlier post

I may have given advice earlier...I think I did.

OT: Well they aren't DPEs or HREs so its not a huge deal... However, I do believe I will be the first crossfire with them on, which I like so I'm keeping it under wraps for now until it happens. They look great and are definitely lighter than the stock wheels...

Back on topic...uhhh...i say 35%

Thanks, all. Good discussion and I will be going 35% on my Audi and if it turns out like I expect, the same for my SRT6 and the 2007 coupe (which my son drives). I don't think it is worth it for the roadster since it spends 95% of it's time top- and windows down.
