What ever happened to the 3 second rule ?????? all these people just tailgate everyone, and they wonder why they can not stop fast enough ????? Here in Michigan you rear end someone and it is your fault, any officer will tell you that, even if the guy in front of you has no brake lights. You are suspose to be in controll of your vehicle at all times. Sad to see another x-fire down, but glad to hear your OK
Bummer. We're you vacationing on spring break? Most likely it will be considered your fault. But at least you weren't hurt.
Sorry to hear about the accident. A couple unfortunate points I need to make though:
1) State of Texas states that any car/driver that rear-ends another car is at fault. It is the way the state works.
2) Having been through my own Crossfire accident I can look at that and tell you that there is a 95% chance of the car being totaled. Mine didn't not incur that much damage, yet it was still totaled. This is probably the best for you (or whoever owns the car) in the long run as the depreciated value is not worth the hassle. You can find a similar crossfire for a very reasonable price. I would in fact push for it to be totaled by the insurance company.
When mine was totaled the insurance company gave me $17,000ish for the vehicle (2007 Black Base Coupe w/ 11k miles)

Seems that just what insurance you get can change greatly depending on were you are.
In BC your insurance covers the car and any one driving it. As has been stated, if you hit the person in front, then you are responsible, but Insurance in BC will cover the car.
Problem comes as they will then up the car owners rates for the next several years.
Bottom line If you let some one drive your car in BC and they create an accident you as the owner will be paying for it.

Doesn't look like a total. Nosed under the bumper of the car in front (Pacifica?) With fenders right and hood and grill folded, this appears to require a front bumper, hood, some radiator mounts, grille, and little if any pulling and welding. $5k fix.
Bet it gets totaled due to unavailability of replacement parts.
The rest of our cars just became a little bit more valuable.

I see this being a minimum $13k repair including new radiator, grille, bumper cover, bumper, cross member at the leading edge of the hood.
doesn't bode well for a 'repair' situation instead of a 'total loss'.

What he said times 2.
times 3. been in the claims business for 25 years. You might be able to get some of the money back, just maybe from the idiot but don't bet on it. Rush was correct. You were following too close, and didn't have yourcar under control to stop. legal viewpoint. Glad you're ok, that's the main thing.
