Exclamation 2007 Base owners (specifically), and base owners in general.

So I decided to start a new thread for this, to grab more attention to a certain issue. Please look at this thread first: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...-did-good.html

Now, it seems that there is at least a small batch of '07 base coupes out there that have had bad/degraded windshield shrouds (ones that either fade and disfigure over time or ones that just look terrible).

My question is for all of you, so we can get a tally and get to the bottom of the mystery (if this is just an '07 problem or a base trim problem)- Do or have your windshield shrouds looked like this? Or were they ever in this rough of shape?

Current VINs and build dates:

2 unknowns listed from ZAHANMA
71597- Jan./07
72277- Mar./07
73141-May/07
73307- May/07
xfirebob's 2007 SE- June/07

2005 Base Coupe. Mine looks like brand new after 4 years of baking in the TX sun.

+1 another 2005 looking good.

I think you may be hard pressed to find a lot of 2007 base owners. The base models are pretty rare and the amount of active members here with them is even less. I am hoping you can find a correlation, but I think after the first 4 you found said yes, you can assume the worst....

I had a 2007 Base Coupe with the same problem. I actually had it replaced under warranty shortly after I purchased the vehicle new in April 2008 (it has since been replaced with a SRT6 )

A good buddy of mine in Houston has a 2006 Base Coupe and it is also faded.

I do not believe it is limited to the year of the car...as it may be a post-2005 issue. Not sure though.

A lot of '06s were re-branded as '07s, however. Maybe those of us with this problem are part of that '06/'07 batch.

I also posted this question to the facebook fan page for the XF. Hopefully we get a handful of responses.

This is true and I can't understand why the base coupes are more rare. I hardly see any base coupes on the road. When I was looking to buy one new in 2005 the dealerships had tons of them.

The bases must have just been produced in smaller numbers. We weren't the flagship trim line, that's for sure.

Hi everyone, mine's a 2007 base black coupe number 73307. It's got the black surround which looks kind of anodized. Under certain light, it looks almost purple. I've noticed this on different cars, notably PT Cruisers on the B pillar. Mine was purchased new in November of 2008, so it still has the factory warranty. I'm wondering if it might be under warranty. The three pieces just pop out. Could be an easy fix - the problem is that the materials for the surrounds might have been degraded for a year or so... Maybe the later or earlier years had a better material.

From what a dealer told me, they ARE covered under the warranty. I've just never had the time to take mine in.

Anyone know what could cause this one part of the paint to degrade like that?

Shapeshifter
Thanks for starting this thread.
My 2007 is still under warranty but I would rather fix it myself considering Chryslers lack of body parts. Some members have been waiting months for bumpers. Yesterday one of our members posted that he brought his car in for a crank sensor and the mechanic cracked his engine cover. They dont have them on the shelf either. If I can fix it myself I will .
Anyway, as I said last night I used Meguairs scratch X over a year ago, and it still looks fine.
I see your Vin is 72277,Winstons is 73307, and mine(Joejet) is 71597. I don't see a trend.
Lets try this my, car was built in 01-07. How about everyone with a 2007 Black base coupe post your Vin and month it was built. Maybe we can figure it out from that angle.

Joejet
if your here, you know the year, model, and color.71597

I've got an 05 with 65,000 miles on it and still looks good. Sounds like it may be a problem with teh later production vehicles.

That's what it's sounding like. It seems that there's a good handful of '06-'07 bases that have this problem, while all the earlier bases seem to be reporting that they've had no problems.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Keep them coming.

We seem to be within 3,000 numbers, and remember that not every car between ours were built as base models, so these parts in question may have been used sporadically in the VIN line.

However, I do like your idea. If everyone could post there VIN, year, and if you know when it was built. I would list my build month, but I don't know it off the top of my head.

Hi guys, my base black coupe was built in May of '07. Build number 73307. It's still under warranty - I bought it new in October of '08. I'm going to try and find out from my dealership if it would be a warranty issue.

Build month is on the drivers side door.

Same here. 05 and looks great. It sounds like a 06/07 problem.

I added you to the list at the top of the thread. Do you know what the last 6 digits of your VIN is? That's your build number- That way we can see how closely built together the affected XF's were.
