Mr-lama, you are most probably right of course.... Its crazy to adapt any conditions to errant behavior, but given society today, its nobody's fault for anything anymore.....

Ding ding ding, we have a winner. Those roundabouts are the best thing Carmel has done in 25 years. They help greatly with traffic flow and more or less, they installed a road course through Carmel. It was never a problem finding an empty part of town to test the grip on a new set of tires

I think I got "flashed" this morning going to work. It was dark and raining, I was driving under the speed limit and the light was yellow when I entered the intersection. But as I was just about through the intersection, I saw white flashes in my rear view mirrors. I was not alone going through the intersection so I can't say for sure that the camera captured me. Either way, stopping on the slippery street would have been more hazardous than going through the intersection.

That said, I can't believe nobody has mentioned that chemical that you can spray on your license plate that can't be detected by the human eye but stops the camera from reading your license number. I know it's been talked about before on this forum but I can't find the thread(s).

Didn't mythbusters do an episode on that license plate stuff? I think they found that all of it was pretty much junk, and the camera got it all anyway.

Of course, you never know with stuff like that. I can't imagine some people higher up being happy about a frequently watched tv show advertising a product that can beat traffic cameras....

Were there any other cars? Are you sure it was shooting you and not another vehicle?

What happens is you report the car stolen and don't need to worry about which intersections you went through that day. You weren't in the car. It was stolen. You send a copy of the police report where you reported it stolen, in with the tickets.

We have those on ramp metering lights here in Chicago. No cameras. I have only ever stopped for one because the car in front of me stopped. Otherwise, I can figure out how to get myself onto the expressway without the help of a light.

I believe he was, and you missed the point - a red light camera doesn't stop anyone from running a red light. Therefore, it does not increase safety.

I read an article, some time within the past few years, from a traffic engineer who had some radically different thinking. He said everything they do to make the roads more safe, makes them less safe - primarily by providing a false sense of security. He idea was the removal of ALL traffic control devices. This would force everyone to pay attention and deal with making their way through traffic. As an example he referred to what you see in some of those very old clips from the early 1900's - cars making their way through an intersection with no traffic lights. Is a jumbled mess, but everyone gets through and traffic continues to flow.

Of course, one problem we have in the US is people illegally running green lights. As we all learned and know, it is only legal to proceed through a green light if the intersection is clear and it is safe to do so. If someone is running the red light, legally, you cannot proceed through your green light as it is unsafe to do so.

Watch motorcyclists - many of us check both ways when proceeding through any intersection, no matter what color the light is. People in cars and trucks don't ever seem to have that level of awareness.

There were no other cars around, the system was activated due to the speed at which I was moving within the detection zone, I did however stop in time & not enter the intersection......no ticket was received.
