5th. Anniversary
Yesterday marked 5 years with my Crossfire. So I realized it needed a new set of tires. Just to be on the safe side and not have my car in the hands of others, I jacked up the car in my garage and removed the tires myself. While loading the tires in the back of my van (to take em to the tire store) one tire decided to defy the laws of gravity and fall over "up hill" on my concrete drivway.
Needless to say it landed face down, and of course it did that final little "death wobble" all coins do just before they stop spinning. So the entire edge of the rim got nicely nicked up.
Is the Chrysler dealer the only place I can get a spray can of touch up paint to match the wheel?
I know that Town Crier has been waiting months for a bottle of factory paint. Anybody have any suggestions, paint codes, anything to help?

First of all congrats on 5 Years. I'm coming up on that in July and I'm still in love with the car. You know how many cars I've had and this is a first.
As for the wheels/wheel. Don't know about the dealer and the paint. If the wheel is in really bad shape there are places that repair them. Any high end dealer should be able to aim you. There is a place here in Glen Burnie called Ye Old Wheel Works. I will check back with you Monday and see how you made out. I have the address of Wheel Works at work if you want it.

From what I can tell, it only looks like it nicked/chiped the paint around the whole outer lip of the wheel. I was hoping I could just sand it down, then spray it with several coats of good matching paint, then wet sand it with some 1200 or 1500 wet sand paper and hand buff it out.
Thanks Pat.
Thanks Pat.
I found that the Elmers Paint Pens (silver) that you can find at Walmart in the arts/crafts/sewing department is a damned good match. But if the damage is extensive...
Congrats Mike and AMX on your five years together. Now on the rim, been there done that......Elmers is a good match but tend to yellow over time......you could try a wheel repair shop, to see what they recommend or offer...Good luck
Thanks everybody for the info.
Just picked up the tires, picked up a couple locator bolts, and a 17mm impact socket at sears.
Anybody know what the lug bolt torque spec's are right off the top of their heads?

What's up FP?

I was looking at a Porsche Panamera the other day (on display in a mall), Jesus.....the tires stick out a good 2 inches from the edge of the rims........wouldn't get any scratches on the rims with that setup.
The shop that mounted my wheels told me 90, my son said too much, use 80. So I agree with bluecoupe, 80 it is! Mike Testors silver model paint also works for wheel boo boo's. Those little square bottles. I haven't noticed it yellowing. Its nice and thick and tends to hide small curb rash. Let me know if I can send you that address or if you find some one local.

Well I got my wheels back, and I've been spending all afternoon and evening cleaning the wheels and under the fenders. I had asphalt "nuggets" on the back side of my rims as big as peas. (It's never going to look as good as Andrews use to, that's for sure).
Seriously thinking about painting the inner fenders black, but I still like the way the white looks. Just a pain to keep clean thanks to every spec of tar showing up so well.
After looking more closely at the rash on the edge of the rim, it looks more like a bad case of acne instead of being curbed. I just can't afford to spend anymore at the moment, so I'm going to try and make the repair myself. I still have to get it aligned too.
The tire place I bought the tires from won't touch it because it's a Mercedes. Went to the Mercedes dealer just down the street, and they won't touch it because it's a Chrysler.
Thanks everybody for the information, It's going to come in handy in my repairs.

I was also thinking of coating the wheel wells with some pickup bedliner protectant. As for the rims, I may also paint the inside of the rims in black.
Happy Anniversary Mike!!!
Sorry to hear about your wheel. Been there, done that. Let me know how the repair goes. If you recall my curbing episode on my way down to meet you (and others) at Summit Racing, I realized that I not only creamed my front wheel, but also dinged up the rear. I suppose that I ought to repair it someday.
I have given up on the dealership ever calling to tell me that my touchup paint has arrived. I suppose it is on national backorder.
Hope to see you soon out and about Northeast Ohio.
