Default K & N Filter

I have read where K & N filters were added to the Xfire..Every vehicle I have owned had one installed and they work great. My question is if there is a K & N available yet ? I checked their website and showed not available at this time..Any one know or installed one yet ? I'd really like to hear from you if you may have some insight..
Thanks very much..

I have them on mine too. When I got mine I had to get them for a 2003 320 SLK (same thing). I paid the same 44.95 each.

Ask a stupid question but what does changing the air filters do to the car?

Is there any other little things that could be done for the good of the Crossfire?

Maybe a very minor noticable difference in hp. The biggest improvement is in fuel mileage. With the stock air filters I got just under 27 mpg (Interstate driving). With the K&N I'm now getting just under 29 mpg (28.92 to be exact) (Interstate driving). My everyday driving is a mix of 65% interstate and 35% city. I was getting right at 23 mpg, now I'm getting just under 25 mpg.

I bet some K&Ns combined with the Powerchip would be sweet!

I have a local guy that does BMWs, MB SLKs, Audis, etc. that says if the Crossfire uses the same Bousch ECU that's in the SLK he can chip and tune mine for $400.00. He told me that I can expect 15 - 20% increase in hp and torque.

I'm giving it very serious concideration. The next autocross is May 9th. If I'm going to do it I will get it done before then.

Thanks so much guys....I was wondering if the SLK would also fit but wanted to ask someone who had already done it..I'll get to the parts store at lunch today and order them...My 02 Jeep Liberty 4x4 was getting about 14mpg in the city before the K & N..After it went to 16-17 mpg...At todays high priced fuel, it only makes sense to save $$ when possible..I did notice a slight increase in low end power too...I appreciate any info and tips you'd like to offer....I have had mine 2 weeks today and the constant looks I am getting are "Priceless"
Thanks again,

Wes:

Did you buy the filters locally, or over the web?

And how long should they last?

Thanks.

Jim

P.S.: I got the estimate to have my front bumper fixed. It is just under $400 to have it repainted, and just under $500 to get a new one that comes from the factory already painted installed. I am probably going to go with the new one.

Got mine at a local AutoZone. They didn't have them in stock but had them the next day.

Default how long do they last...

the k&n filter has a "million" mile guarantee.

you just have to clean the filter and re-oil it every 5,000 miles or so.

k&n sells the filter cleaner and oil as well.

How hard is it to install the K&N filters yourself on this car? I bought one for my lats car, but the air filter was so far down I couldn't reach it and didn't feel like paying to have someone install it for me and remove it every few thousand miles to clean it.

Default install info...

fairly easy...takes about 15 minutes or so.

you have to remove the large silver cover on top of the engine...just pull up on it and the cover will come off (squeeze clamps hold it in place). turn the cover upside down on a towel to protect cover from scratching. there are four nuts that hold each filter cover in place...remove these nuts and access the stock filter...replace filter...then do the reverse to complete assembly.

Thanks Andrew...:-) I've been thinking about getting one this week whenever I get my Crossfire back from the dealership for P wind noise and installation of my illuminated doorsill plates. I think putting the K&N filters in is not that complicated then.

I have a question about the filters... is it possible to have a cold air intake installed on the Xfire? something like the AEM cold air intakes on the ricers?

Sorry everyone... I'm a computer guy not a car guy

BobaFettm.....The Crossfire already has dual cold air intakes. The engine cover is the cold air box.
