Default So, am I nuts???

A question for my fellow crossfire owners: Who else has replaced the screws that hold their license plate(s) with stainless steel screws? I've done it on a number of my vehicles. Just got around to doing it on the crossfire, as I finally got custom plates and wanted to make sure I don't get any icky rust on the car or the plates.

so, Who else here will fess up that they've done the same, or similar???

The answer is... Yes yerdsyerds... you are nuts! haha.

I still have to find a nice set of fastners for my license plate. I got the ugly/semi-rusted look right now.

I have at least 4 sets of new license plate screws 'on the shelf' I like the stainless screws that have a 10mm hex head but also will take a flatblade screwdriver in a pinch. They are on every car I own (except the Touareg which has a funky machine thread pitch )

Personally, I like chrome. So I found these at a local shop.
Had to modify the holes by tapping them up to 8mm thread.

Yep. I've even gone as far as replacing the fender attachment bolts under the hood with stainless. It just goes on and on and on...

Not only have I replaced the hardware, but I went with hex heads with a 'P' struck into the heads of them and have them both turned to proudly display these tiny 'P's that no one will ever notice...

We are all a little sick in the head LOL

Smfry, you still making me a pad for the center console??

Don't use felt... use little pieces of adhesive backed velcro. Lets you remove plates for when you clean it all up or need to remove your old tabs adn put the new ones on and it won't hold dust and grime against the painted surface behind the plate. Oh and use rivnuts and threaded stainless screws instead... never have to worry bout stripping the holes out again.

Guess that makes me certifiably nutz, right?

No, you're not nuts... you just have a couple of loose screws. It could happen to anyone.

I have to say I am crazy about details and that was one I addressed early on, about 10 minutes into ownership. I have some nice black plate frames and clear plate covers. I also have covers for the screws so you don't see them. They also make chrome covers which we have on the MB frames on my wifes car.
