Step Away From The Car,,,before I get
my can of mace 8) My CF not a week old and yesterday I am giving her first bath, an admirer comes along and checks out and asks if he can look inside the windows, I say sure...no problem. He goes along his way and thanks me for letting him look at my car. I'm at the drying stage and another onlooker approaches and I have the doors open drying the jambs and the windshield wipers up to get the water under there...this guy is drooling over the inside and then says: "Can I look at the motor"...I'm proud of my baby so I pop the hood and before I had a chance to put the windshield wipers down this jack as* opens the hood and POP go the wipers back to the windshield :!: :!: You gotta be kidding right...no then he says, Ah, they just popped back. I said, "The hell and I look close at the edge of the hood where they hit it and sure enough paint is chipped off :!:  I am total bumming and said, I'm not believing this...He says, Ah, didn't they give you some touch paint at the dealership. I looked at him and said, F832 touch up paint, I'm going to have to get this fixed, are you going to pay for it :?: ...he goes, is it my fault :?: I go over to him and get about two inches from his face and said, I can't believe you just said that. Unbelievable...what kind of man are you, dude I'm out here cleaning my car and wasn't about opening the hood :!: At this point I'm ready to kick his a22...Then he goes well get an estimate. I get his name and business card with a cell number supposedly his...I call the dealership and ask to bring it in for an estimate on a chip and they tell me the paint guy comes on Wednesday...I'll bring it in then and meanwhile I go back outside to pick up my bucket etc and this jerk is still out there so I let him know about Wednesday and he goes, don't worry it's a chip and can be fixed. Lesson learned someone wants to admire my car fine I'm going to tell them (unless it's a friend and I know 'em) yes it's nice, that's why I bought it...now step away from the car before I get my mace out. If he doesn't put his money where is stupid mouth is I'll take him to small claims. I took pics of it and went to the police station to get a report written up but the officer said I didn't need one. I will see what happens and sue him if I need to. I'm still in disbelief that he put his hands on my car.
but in all honesty...you will be better off touching up the rear edge of the hood instead of repainting the entire hood itself. once the factory paint is replaced/resprayed the hood will chip from rocks beyond belief.
there is nothing as durable as the factory finish.
the other choice is to have a body shop touch up the area and wetsand the finish to blend it the best they can. this would be my choice.
as for court...that will be a hard one to fight.

Most dealers have or kow of nick & chip specialist who can fix it like new and you'll never know it was there, expenside $100. to $150.
search paint nicks and chips on the internet for one in your area.

I don't know what the bottom line cost will be yet, so when I let off steam by talking about going to small claims this is my initial frustration at the whole fiasco...when I find out what the cost is I'll follow through with my recourse if I feel it's necessary, Texex91 my friend.
Jimbo n Andrew, thank you for your input

It's just...not...very...likely, is it?
I can't believe he found the exterior hood latch so fast. I sell the dam car and own one and still have a hell of a time locating that latch under the hood. Dont even let the some after market mr chips guy from the dealer try to fix that. Take it to some high priced body shop that specializes in jag's or bens's. I can remember selling PT crusers when you had to wait 6 to 8 monthes to get one. We would show the only demo we had and the customers would close the hood on the prop rod and put an outer dentation in the hood also EVERY BODY should start looking at there driver side consol lid, I'm starting to get a ware mark. The paint is coming off from my elbow hitting the lid so check yours. I'm gonna get the dealer to repaint it under warranty  One other thing don't let any one sit in it without giving them a lecture about the rocker moldings and how the heels of there shoe's can damage the molding Bobby N graphite 6 speed #2515
the paint guy won't be at the dealership till Wednesday so today I take it to a few body shops to get opinions/estimates and just like Andrew suggested, rather than repainting the hood and the general consensus is to touch it up with the stuff from the dealership. I understand the idea behind it though they are telling me that it'll be only be about 75% of what it was. Like I mentioned I still have not had the chance to have the dealer paint guy look at it but if it's the same story with him, that sucks. I called the idiot who caused this and he's still claiming to cover the cost. I don't want to redo the whole hood however if I end up with a scar on my new car because of the whole predicament, I'm not goin to be very disappointed. Maybe I just have not found the right technician and it can be touched up to where you really can't tell. I did a search for paint chips specialists but didn't get much. FYI the estimates to redo the hood are in the $600 neighborhood. I won't go that route even if it's the idiots dollar. I posted a pic of it. I'll see what the dealership guy says on Wednesday. The saga continues...
the chip is fixed and you cannot even tell it was ever there. Got a referral thru the dealership of a guy that does touch up and he looked at it and said he could do something, then I asked him if he thought he could get it 100% and he had the right answer...he showed me the program that he has on his laptop that tells you the exact amount of what colors to mix to make up the color that is on the car and can even get the "recipe" for 1 oz. His plan was to color sand it and smooth it out then use an airbrush tool with a compressor to go over it with the paint that was on the car. I felt like he was worth a shot, but I couldn't watch, after he was done I looked at my car and  you'd never know. So the guy that caused this paid me the $275 and it's a done deal. Now I know someone who can do something about scratches or door dings etc. I'm happy. Thanks everyone for your support...it felt like the twilight zone.
