Default New Crossfire Owner here.

I just picked up my Crossfire yesterday. Traded my 02 Firebird. Gonna take some getting used to. I never had a REAL car before. So far so good, but I have to log a lot more seat time before I am used to it. Gonna do a trip to POrtland Maine next week. Gotta get my XM radio installed today. Wife is giving me crap. I guess thats what they are for. "I can't believe you bought a two seater". Hey dear, thats why you drive a minivan. I drive 30,000 mile a year for business, I might as well drive something I enjoy, right? Oh well, brighter days behind the wheel are coming. Great site here. Much better than the Firebird sites. Take care.

If the wife is giving you crap, isn't that prima facie evidence that you made the right choice?

Seriously, good job and welcome to the club.

Thanks.

Does anyone know how I can determine the build number of my car? Is it the last five numbers of the VIN?

Welcome aboard!

If you haven't already, fill in the polls on colors, tranny, and rubber.

Oh, and post in the radio threads under Tech/Mod about your XM upgrade. Especially can you take some pics and upload to your album? I'm thinking of getting satellite, but all the controllers seem to me they'll take up too much dash space, or look like a kludge. Crutchfield is offering free satellite tuner with any Kenwood or Clarion head unit until mid-April, so I'm thinking of swapping head units, but I have major concerns about how the speakers hook up (are they line level or preamp level), do the sub behind the seats have their own amps, etc. etc.

WELCOME you are correct about the VIN you can also look on the driver side door to see the build date

i think it's the last 6 numbers but, yep, that's it. you can also get the build date off the drivers side door.
enjoy the forum. there's just tons of good stuff on here and a lot of it you'll never find in the manual. also a really good bunch of people from all over.

Ok, how about this one? Should I be concerned about the first gear jump out issue? Mine is #2213. So far no issues other than the CD player dosen't work and the radio display is dim. The dealer is ordering a new radio to fix that. No biggie. I use my XM radio ALL the time anyway.

Welcome, spring time in Boston is a great time to enjoy your Crossfire, majority of the evil anti sports car weather should be behind you. My Dad worked in Waltham for years and my wife and I were born and raised in NH so we know the weather and the country. Enjoy your new car, gripes and grins gratefully acknowledged - mostly the grins.

Speaking as someone that had that problem... I wouldn't worry about the popping out of 1st gear issue until it happens to you. Yes, it was a problem for a only a "few" of some early productions cars. Chrysler is well aware of it and there is a TSB out now that addresses the issue.

Enjoy your new XFire!!!
